Water would overflow the machine and flood
Problem was intermittent. It would happen once a month or so. Eventually I set next to the machine and kept turning it On and OFF through cycles for about a half an hour until it failed and I was able to confirm that problem was with the water valve.
Buying and replacing the water valve was easy.

Water would not cut off once it filled
First I unpluged the unit then I remove the hot and cold water hoses from the back. I removed the torx head screws that hold the control cover at the top of the washer, then I located the water valve. Once I located the water valve I took the 2 phillips head screws that hold it in place out , unpluged the electrical connecters took the water supply hose off. I then removed the old valve and replaced it with a new one. Then I put everything back together. very simple job 10 minutes tops.

Replacement of defective water valve (i.E. Water wouldn't stop flowing into the washer)
1. Disconnected Water Hoses (Hot & Cold). Needed a wrench to initially loosen and then used my hand to remove them. 2. Opened the Control Panel, by unscrewing and removing the cover. 3. Pulled out the two electrical plugs (labelled which one goes where with a tape) connected to the old water valve. 4. Pulled out a tiny hose connected to the old water valve (by loosening a clamp that held the hose tight with a pair of pliers). 5. Removed the old valve, put in the new. Reattached the hose, the electrical plugs, closed the control panel, and reattached the hot & cold water hoses. 6. Problem solved.

Washer overflowing
I removed the 4 screws from rear of top control panel, tilted it forward. Found the fill valve and water fill pressure switch right there. Removed a few screws and changed both items in less than 10 min. Parts cost about $75, probably saved me over $200 to have repair man in.

The cold water wouldn't shut off causing the washer to overflow
I removed the supply hoses, removed the screws holding the sheet metal control console in place exposing the dual water inlet valve. Removed the two screws holding the valve in place, removed each wire from the old valve attaching it to the matching connector blade on the new valve. Using pliers loosened the spring clamp holding the output hose to the valve and reattached the hose to the new valve. Then screwed the new valve to the washer and reattached the supply hoses. After running a test for leaks and that the valve functioned properly, I screwed the sheet control console back in place.

Was not getting cold water when trying to fill the washer. Was only getting the hot water
Replaced the Dual Water Inlet Valve. Took about 15 minutes to take the old one off and put the new one back on. the cold water started comming out like it should,it also seemed to have more pressure and filled faster. We have had the washer for over five years and it seemed that it took forever for it to fill when we did a load. So by replacing the valve it fixed the problem of no cold water comming out and the slowness of filling. It seems to be filling faster.

The water on my hotpoint washer would not shut off.
So, I did an internet search using Hotpoint washer as my keywords and selected Partselect to find a new Dual Water Inlet valve. I found the part and called the company to place my order and the associate asked me for my model number to be sure it was the right one. It wasn't, only similar, and she located the correct one for me. I ordered it and it arrived quickly. I had it installed in less than 15 minutes and the washer works just fine now. Excellent service!

Hot water valve stuck in the open position
1) Researched internet for parts to make repair 2) Tested the cold side to make sure the only problem was the valve. 3) Ordered part from PartSelect 4) Made repairs after going to hardware store to purchase a set of torx bits to loosen the front panel so I can replace the dual valve assembly.
Only tools needed #1 Phillips and #15 Torx

Hot water would not shut off. Washer overfilled
First, turn off water faucets. Next remove control panel. water valve is in back, easily accessible, held in by 2 screws. Removed 2 water inlet hoses and one outlet hose held by a spring type hose clamp. Removed 4 wiring connectors from valve. reverse steps to reinstall.
