The washer belt started slipping - this is not a hard DIY
The video on this site was very good and simple compared to others so if you are replacing a belt please follow the directions given here. A few comments:
* when you compare the new belt to the old do not panic - the old belt is much larger which would explain the slipping.
* get the belt installation tool - it is worth it ... Read more />* use three tie wraps instead of one. I never got a single one tight enough to hold the belt. using three it went straight on.
* as in the video, move the belt around to the right once the tie wraps are in place
* once you start to move the belt onto the drum pulley be sure the belt is hanging below the pulley and it is clear of the motor mounting brackets. There is not enough clearance if the belt rest on top of the pulley as you move it around. The motor mounting bracket seems to want to catch the belt and you run the risk of cutting the belt.

It took me less than 45 minutes with my learning curve so the next one will take less than 25.

washer wouldn't spun
The repair would have gone well, however partselect sent me the wrong part. Instead of a washer belt, they sent me a door seal to what looks like a refrigerator

Belt thrown off washer
I am so glad I bought the belt installation tool. I tried black ties several times to hold belt slack and kept breaking. I used two stainless steel hose clamps purchased at a local auto parts store. They held the super tight belt to the pulley to be able to install belt with purchased tool to get the belt on motor pulley. Washer is working again.

Washer makes loud whining noise, intermittently, during spin cycle.
The "service kit belt tool" was difficult to install, but I oonsider it a necessity. We tried installing the belt without the tool, and the belt kept snapping off the motor drive pulley. Using a cable tie to hold the belt to the drum pulley did not work. I used a length of heavy duty duct tape instead, and that worked OK. Unfortunately, the whining noise is still present with the new belt, so a GE service technician visit has been scheduled. Our belt replacement effort has not been totally wasted, unless the washer can't be repaired economically, since the old belt was fraying.

There is a growling noise, a bearing i am sure. It appears the bearing or bearings come with the shaft and mode selector assembly. The bearing noise is audible any time the washer is washing and worse when in the spin cycle. I would assume this is a common failure after 12 years. Is it possible to replace just the bearings is my second question? I don't see any bearings listed separately. Please help.

Picked up the washer myself, laid it down in the truck. Afterward, the tub was imbalanced and make lots of noise. Washes fine, but noisy. Should belt be replaced or put back.

Hello Martha, thank you for inquiring. For this symptom you will want to consider either the Tub Dampening Strap part PS271100, the 6-Rib Drive Belt part PS1482278, or the Tub Bearing Washer part PS271509 for your model. We hope this helps.
