Outer heating element shorted out, likely due to age and damage from lower rack changing heights over 10 year period of use.
Turned off breaker at electrical panel. Confirmed power to stove was off with multimeter, as I couldn't pull stove out to unplug it without significant hardwood floor protection in place and extra equipment to "slide" the stove out. Removed all racks. Cleaned the inside of the stove. Unscrewed the two screws holding the element to the back wall and pulled the element out from the back wall, revealing the wiring connections. Held the wire on one side with needle nose pliers and slid the element from the wire retaining clip. Attached the new element on that side to the wire retaining clip. Held the wire on the other side with needle nose pliers and removed the other wire retaining clip. Pulled out the old element and placed it on the floor. Installed the other end of the new element into the wire retaining clip. Confirmed they were both securely attached, crimped down a bit on each retaining clip for good measure and pushed the element and wire ends back into the stove body. Installed the two screws and re-installed the racks. Turned on the breaker at the electrical panel. Confirmed that the lights, igniters and over all worked. Done. 15 minutes. Took just as long getting out the tools, turning things off and on and returning tools to the garage than it did to replace the element. Fun part was finding the model number, finding the web site to purchase the element, and waiting a week to get it. But really easy and the stove works again.
