WED6600VW0 Whirlpool Dryer - Instructions

Previous consumer help advised to check the Thermal Fuse. A quick check using an ohm meter or simply connecting the leads together, confirmed that the Fuse was open and bad. The other essential item is to clean & vacuum all lint from all other dryer parts on the top, drum & back of the dryer. Be sure to also perform a check of the Cycling Thermostat, located near the Thermo Fuse. This is not a difficult repair. Just be sure to disconnect the 220 V and the circuit breaker. A $9 fuse was better than the cost of a repairman or new dryer. Barry Burke, Cincinnati, Ohio.

1) Unplug the unit. 2) Loosen the vent clamp and remove the vent hose. 3) Remove the back cover using either a nut driver or ratchet and socket. 4) Disconnect the wires using a needle nose pliers and remove the screws holding the Heating Element Module in place then remove the heating element module. 5) Remove the Hight Temp Limit Switch from the Heating Element Module. 6) Replace the Heating Element Module and re-assemble the unit by following steps 1 - 5 in the reverse order. Watch the video - it is much simpler than reading and understanding these steps!

I put my mind into the repair based on what I saw for a problem and what was given for advise. I was steered toward the thermal fuse, ordered and installed it. Not repaired, in checking the power backward to the panel I found that the dedicated panel had one side blown still allowing for the motor to run but not the element. hmmm

put in new heating element did not fix then bought a tester thermostat above heating element was open when cold replaced now dryer works fine

Everyone said changing a dryer belt was a piece of cake.They did not tell the truth it is a difficult job. I am a 52 year old female and I had a problem. You have to take the whole drum out. I finally completed the job but i had to prop the drum up with blocks so I could screw in the front panel. I think for those who want to change the belt I would go smoother with two people so the can hold things in place while the other one screws the panels back. I also think taking the dryer door off make the front panel a lot more easier to put in palce.

I found some help on-line that suggested some of the most likely causes. The on-line videos showed how to remove clips/panels to access the parts. Once I found the possibly failed parts, door switch and thermal fuse, I did a quick continuity check and found that the thermal fuse had an open circuit.

Took off the backplate of dryer, replaced fuse, done.

Took my channle locks and pulled old catch out and snapped in new catch. Works great now. Cost me four dollars and 3 minutes of my time.

I watched the video online in the order section. then just did it after we received the repair kit.

We only had to tilt the dryer enough to be able to screw the leveling leg in place.The only hard part was holding the dryer steady to screw in the leveling foot.

Following the step by step instructions it took longer to clean the old lint out of the bottom of the dryer than to perform the entire repair.The maintenance kit came complete with every moving part(except the motor and drum)and now it runs very quietly.I am all thumbs when it comes to tools but this was very simple.

The repair took approxamitly 10 minutes from the time I unplugged the dryer from the wall to the time I had the parts switched out. Very easy anyone could do it.

Based on the PartSelect analysis my heating element was mostly likely the problem. I ordered the part and watched the how to video before it came. The repair was very simple and straight forward. So simple, that I did not need to review the instructions or rewatch the video. Took me about 30 minutes, and the analysis was correct. I also took time to vacuum out all the dryer lint that had accumulated inside on the back of the dryer. Put everything back together, plugged it up, and it was instantly heating up and drying as it should. I am very pleased with my PartSelect experience.
