The microwave light, or surface light lens, keeps the bulb in your microwave protected from getting cracked, scratched, and damaged. If your lens is defective or broken, or the bulb in your appliance is easily getting damaged, replacing the lens can be a solution. Refer to the installation instructions provided by the manufacturer for further guidance. Remember to unplug your appliance from the power source before starting this project, and wear gloves to ensure your hands are protected as a safety precaution.
The microwave door key (or door latch) ensures that the microwave door closes properly while the microwave is operating. If the door key is broken, the door will not close and the microwave will not start. If you notice that the microwave door is not staying closed, check to ensure that the door key is in working order and is not damaged. This door key is made of plastic and has a spring attached to provide downward tension to keep the hooks engaged. If either of the hooks is broken or does not have any spring tension, you may need to replace the door latch. Before beginning this repair, make sure to unplug the unit and remove the inner door panel to access the door key. This part is also known as a door latch.
