a simple replacement

The black plastic or teflon coating on the ice mold was coming off in flakes and freezing in the ice cubes

I took out the ice collection box and auger to get access to the three screws holding the ice maker assembly against the left wall of the freezer. You can use a screwdriver or a nut driver. I then unpluged the assembly and wiggled it loose from the water fill tube. I assumed that unplugging the unit would disable the water valve but I put a plastic tub under the fill tube just in case. I studied the assembly on the kitchen table for a few minutes before I disasembled it. After removing a snapon plastick cover I removed three or four screws on the gearbox and was able to pull and wiggle the parts apart. The heater contacts have rubber O rings so you have to be firm pulling the mould out of and into the gearbox mount. Make sure it is fully seated. On reassembly note that the ice kicking arm is notched so it fits into the gearbox only one way and it helps to have it in position when you screw the gearbox back on. I also found the plastic ice guide that fits on top of the mold a little awkward in snaping back together. Make sure its fingers space evenly with the ice kicking arms.

Switched Electric breaker to off. Removed all food and ice cube tray from freezer. Remove 4 screws on soleniod cover in rear of freezer. Removed two screws, two elec connectors from old soleniod and removed. Installed new soleniod. Reinstalled elec connectors and screws, ice cube tray and food. Turned breaker on . Ice maker worked properly.

I assumed the motor had burned out. I removed the 4 hex-head screws to remove the bracket holding the motor. I had to squeeze the electrical fitting to the motor located in the right rear of the compartment in order to electrically disconnect the motor, since the lower part of the fitting has a latch that prevents its easy removal. Then I could insert a vice grips on the shaft and on the coupling in order to (reverse) unscrew the coupling from the motor. I initially received the wrong replacement motor, but when the correct one arrived, it installed on the mounting bracket easily and I reinstalled the bracket with motor easily. It turns out a new motor did NOT fix the problem, so I'm not sure what to do now.

Water dispenser not working, Ice dispenser chute icing up

I removed the outer ice/water dispenser cover following directions I found on-line (push down and gently pry out at the bottom). I then removed several nut-head screws which were holding a plastic plate which had the door light and electric control wiring mounted in it. Behind that I found a broken tab on the Control Bracket which was why my water dispencer was not working and I found the chute door for the ice maker was chewed up which allowed warm air into the chute and was causing my ice build up problem. Replacing the Control Bracket was easy. Just note how things come apart. Putting the chute door in was a little more complicated, but again, note how things come apart and you should not have a problem putting it back together.

Pretty easy to replace..just take your time with the ice crusher but the teeth are labeled a..b..and c. This auger is steel so I should have no problems with this breaking. I received this item less than 24 hrs after I ordered it! On Christmas eve...Thanks to all of you

Ice maker mold was cracked and leaking water into the bin which then froze all the cubes together.

I removed the ice maker assembly from the freezer compartment (four nuts/ nut driver) and unplugged the wire harness. I discovered the nature of the problem and I went on the Internet to look for replacement parts expecting I'd have to buy the entire ice maker. When I found PartSelect.com I looked through the pictures of the parts available for my ice maker. I found the correct part quickly and easily. And having an acurate photo on the site, I was able to match all the key features of the mold I had with the one on the screen. I ordered the part, and installed it the day it arrived with just a Phillips screwdriver and a nut driver. It functions perfectly.

Found the control bracket housing had broken and micro switch for the water pump was not making contact with mechanical link. (In other words when you put a cup under the dispenser and push water did NOT come out.)

I removed the faceplate and switches, removed all the switches and installed them in the new control bracket. Installed new control bracket into fridge and tested. Works! Reinstalled faceplate and switches and drained system for a few minutes. Man I forgot how good filtered water tasted!

Ice Maker would seem like it was the valve was leaking and Ice would build up at the rear of tray.
After listening to it cycle, (drop ice and fill) valve would open up again about 20 minutes later.
Over flowed and iceberg would form at rear.
Replaced icemaker unit and works fine now.

The plastic lower door closing cam was worn down. Replacing it was very simple: remove the top door hinge by unscrewing three nuts; lift the door off the lower hinge; unscrew and remove the lower door hinge; screw the new plastic lower door closing cam on to the new door hinge; screw the new lower door hinge; lift the door back on to the lower door hinge; screw the top door hinge.

refrigerator was intermittently cooling because thermostat contacts burned away.

Turn off the fridge and unplug the power. Inside the refrigerator unit, remove two plastic panels extending from the front to the rear cooling vent by unscrewing two screws. Gently unhook the thermostat tube from the rear vent.

On the control panel, gently pry off the two control knobs and the front control panel. Remove four screws to drop down the control assembly. Unplug the left electrical connector and unscrew the lever control arm being careful not to bend it. Disconnect the right side electrical connector and you can now remove the control unit to a table to easily work on it.

Undo two screws to remove the thermostat bracket. Undo two more screws to remove the thermostat assembly. Install the new thermostat and reverse the process just described. It takes about 15 minutes if you know what to do ahead of time. You will have to reuse the plastic tube that covers the thermostat sensing tube.

The water dispenser was slow and the ice maker did not work.

I determined that the inlet valve was the common device to both the drinking water and the ice maker so I changed that out. That required shutting off the water supply and un plugging the refrigerator. After that as I pulled wire connectors and removed water tubing from the existing part I hooked them to the new inlet valve. This replacement was easy and straight forward. It fixed the drinking water flow, but the ice maker still would not operate. I ordered the complete replacement ice maker and following the included instructions replaced the old one within 20 minutes. The wireing harness on the new part did not need to be changed out. I used the shut off bail from the original unit and I also used the front cover from the original unit as it had instruction / graphics on it which the new unit did not. After several hours we still did not have ice. I read all of the ice maker repair stories and re- looked at the diagrams for the ice maker and decided that there must be a blockage in the ice filler tube. After shutting offf the feed water and un plugging the refrigerator I disconnected the ice maker feed line from the inlet valve and the back of the refrigerator. I could not blow through the tube and on closer inspection I found ice in the part of the tube that goes directly to the ice maker. At last after clearing this our new ice maker is running great and we have all the cold drinking water we need. In retro speck we deffinitley needed the new inlet valve but probably would not have needed the ice maker. However after 12 years of service and the fact we were having some intermittent problems with it leading up to the change out we decided to keep the new ice maker. We definitly will think of PartSelect in the future, their service was excellent.

This product comes in a bottle with a brush like Liquid Paper. It goes on incredibly easy. A second coat might be needed. I wanted to prevent rust from setting in so I covered the scratches and dings. The paint is a little brighter since my washer is 10 years old but it still looks great.

First I removed the icemaker from the freezer by removing two horizontal screws holding it to the side wall, and one vertical screw holding the front to a bracket coming off the side wall. Then I used a flat screwdriver to unlock the electrical plug. (After doing this, I realized that this wasn't necessary at all, and this part could have been changed just as easily without removing the icemaker.) On the front, there is a white cover with Ice Maker Plus. Use a flat screwdriver to unlock the tangs and remove the cover. There are three screws in the corners that once removed, will allow the motor assy. to be gently pulled straight out. On the back of the part, you will see many gold lands that the timer touches. I don't think there was anything wrong with my motor. I had two spots where the gold plating was worn off, so I suspect it was not making contact, and the whole process would stop. Slide the new part in place making sure the teeth on the gears line up (not a big deal), and secure with the screws. Install cover and you're done. Mine has been making ice like it was brand new.

Loosen the 2 screws at the top of the icemaker with a nutdriver while holding the unit in place. Remove the single screw at the bottom of the icemaker. Remove the old icemaker after disconnecting.

The replacement unit had the exact connector, I just connected it and put the screws back.

Replacing the valves was also easy. All the connectors and fittings matched perfectly.

I ordered the parts on a Sunday, and they showed up on Tues.
