My heating element shorted out
Shut off the power at the breakers, then remove the oven door from the hinges (for easier access to the back panel. Loosen the nuts holding the element plate to the back of the oven wall. Pull the faulty element away, carefully so as not to break the wires. Unscrew the electrical wires, noting their positions. Remove the faulty element from the work area. Place the new element into the oven area, attach the wires, push the element plate back in, and screw it back down. Turn the breaker back on. Bake cookies to test. Side note: delivery time from PartSelect was excellent. I went from shorted element to baked goods in just a few days.

Element
It was simple to do. It actually took longer to read the instructions that I found on the website, than it did to change the element. I want to add, I ordered the wrong part the firs time, but the exchange was super easy and my refund was quick. I'm totally pleased.

The oven was not heating properly
We purchased a new, generic-brand, Bake Element, that was much cheaper thank the GE brand. We installed the new element and the oven now works great.

The oven heating element fried itself during a self-cleaning cycle
This was a truly simple repair. (Thank you engineers!) Moving the range away from the cabinets/wall and unplugging the 240V power to the range allows the repair to be safely completed. Two simple nuts held the heating element to the back oven wall, and two additional nuts connected the wires to the heating element. (The original equipment used nuts, so a nut driver was needed; whereas the replacement part came with screws so a standard screwdriver was used.) Once the connections were reconnected and attached to the back wall of the oven, the power was reconnected and the range was put back into its spot. I tested the heating element by setting the oven to 350 degrees and allowing it to completely preheat. Done!

Melted element
When the element melted, it continued to get hot even though the oven was off. We had to unplug the whole unit. I then thought it was something wrong in the oven. However, I took a chance and removed the old element by removing the 2 nuts and 2 screws and replaced it with the new element. It worked. When we plugged the oven in, the element did not get hot with the oven off and it is working as if it is brand new. Thanks to PartSelect for their quick service. I now do not need to buy a whole new oven.

Heating element went out in my 1978 double oven
My son came over to do this for me. He took off the oven door and took out all the racks and turned off the electricity to the oven. Then he used a nut driver to take off the nuts to remove the old element. He bent the wires so they wouldn't fall behind the oven. He then installed the new element and put everything back together. And then he ate the dinner I cooked him for coming over and doing this.

oven element had burn into.
I took the oven door off, remove the first 2 screws with a rachet, then pulled very hard to get the element out from the back, and then removed the last 2 screws that connect the electric wires to the element. I then did every thing in reverse, put on the oven door, and test the element.

Heating element replacement
Turn off the power to the oven at the breaker box. Removed the oven door (by lifting straight up) to make access easier. Removed the oven shelves. Remove two screws at the back of the oven that held the old element in place. The only difficult I had was finding the proper socket size to remove these screws. Once those are removed, slide the old element toward you 2-3 inches. Remove the two connection wires for the old element and remove it. Place the new element in the oven and connect the wires (keeping the same color wire on the same side as before.) Slide the element back and replace the two screws that hold it in place. Put the oven shelves in and the door back on. Turn on the breaker. Done.
