RB735G*J1 Hotpoint Range - Instructions

Even though my sons offered to do the repair, I opted to hire an appliance technician to do it and it took him at least 45 mins. with his experience and tools. apparently the inside wall wires were shorter and more difficult to access and grip and I'm glad I did. It should last another 20 years and I'll be dead!

This is twin oven range with controls at side of upper oven. Control panel was fastened with screws at top and bottom. Range has built-in hood at top which had to be disassembled to reach top screw. Once had access to top screw, eaisly removed control panel and replaced control. New control had identical connections as old control so only had to install it, break shaft to correct length, and use proper shaft adapter for knob. Remounted control panel and range worked perfectly. This would have been a very quick job except for having to deal with the built-in range hood.

(Turn off the Power) Pull stove out, remove the 2 screws that holds switch in place, remove one wire at a time and install on new switch. Slip switch in replace 2 screws. Snap off about 3/4 of the shaft cut down plastic insert for knob, install knob turn on power and it works.

Unplug oven, and remove the wiring cover on the back of the oven, unscreen the screws attaching the wires to the element leads and pull the element out. Put new element in and screw on the wires and reinstall the wiring cover. All done less than 15 minutes.

I chickened out and had a friend do it for me so it was real easy.

Repair was very easy. The instructions on Partselect.com with the item ordered described exactly what to do. I followed the instructions and it works great. Used socket wrench to remove the two screws holding the bake element bracket to the oven wall. Pulled the element out. Used a screwdriver to remove the wires from the old bake element. Use a screwdriver to put the new wires on the new bake element. Pushed the bake element back into place. Used a socket wrench to tighten the oven bracket to the oven wall. Done. Turned on the oven. Worked Great!!!.

Removed old element, checked continuity and element was bad, Fit new element and everything was good. No problem except my arms were not long enough!! Repairs took about 15 minutes.

Was looking at $1000 to replace range. Found the part for $30 with shipping. Just need to pull range out and have access to front and rear. AND UNPLUG FROM OUTLET (I also cut power at the box. That's just me) From rear, remove 2 screws holding on vertical cover and remove cover. Remove screws holding wires to element leads. From the front, open door 1/4 way then lift off of hinges. This makes reaching into the oven box easier. Remove two screws holding element to the back wall and remove. Insert new element. Go to back and use new screws that came with element to connect wires Make sure insulation is in place and replace cover. From the front re-connect element to back wall and make sure both feet are level on oven floor before tightening. Put oven door back on, plug in and test. Once tested push range back into place. Whole thing took 20 minutes.

the screw driver I used had several different nut driver sizes so that was the only tool I used. I took the 2 screws that held the element inplace and then there were 2 more that held the wires on to element.

Took oven door apart to get to gasket. . . Took about an hour or less. Then I basically cleaned the entire over door while I waited for the part to come. When the new gasket came I started to put it back on. I used springed type clothes pins to hold the gasket in place on the middle part of the door which hold the glass. As I put on the out part of the oven door over the middle part of the oven door, I carefully took the pins off as I gradually slipped the 2 parts of oven door back together. After the gaskets were carefully adjusted to it's proper position, then I put the nut screw back in through the gasket holes to hold the 2 oven door parts back together. Then, I finally put the rest of the door back together. This took about an hour also. Not to bad when you have to do this by your selves. This is the second time I've put in a new oven gasket. The oven is 28 years old, so the gaskets last me about 14 years each time. We hope to keep the oven a few more year before we buy a new glass top style stove. 1. The infinite switch had several knobs which would fit the switch shaft. Read the directions included with the switch in order to have the shaft fit the proper knob. You can break the shaft with two pairs of pliers. 2. Move the stove away from the wall and unplug it. 3. Remove the 1/4 screws from the back side of the stove and remove the back panel, exposing the switch. 4. Remove the wires one at a time and put them on the new switch. The terminals are L1, L2, P, H1 & H2. The Pilot (p) has a smaller terminal so you don't get it mixed up. Generally L1 is black, L1 is red, P is yellow, H1 and H2 can be blue, brown, yellow, orange or one of these colors striped on a white wire. 5. Remove the old switch from the stove and be sure to save the two mounting screws. 6. Position the new switch so that the side of the switch marked "top" is on top. 7. Install the screws on the new switch and put the knob on it. 8. Carefully test the burner. 9. Unplug the stove and put the back cover on.

TURN OFF POWER , remove oven door & oven wire racks, remove two retaining screws in back of coil and pull the burnt coil foward enough to remove the screws that hold the wires to the coil. You may have to drop one side of the front support bracket to move coil forward.Fasten the new coil to the broiler wires with the new screws provided. Push the new coil back into place being careful not to pinch the wires in the opening. Refasten coil to the oven back with existing screws that you removed. Refasten front support.Put racks back in and put door back on.Easy fix! Easy to order, easy to install and came within days from order date. Very pleased with whole thing.

Removed the two screws that held the bake element retainer in place and then pulled the bake element into oven to remove two screws holding the wiring attached to the end of the old bake element. Pulled bake element retainer over new bake element. Attached wiring to new bake element with screws supplied. Pushed end of new bake element into place and attached bake element retainer to oven with the two original screws. Done in about 5 minutes.

We unplugged the range. My husband removed the burned element and installed the new element. There was no problem either way. The worst part was getting up and down from the floor. He is 87 years old and doesn't bend like he did 20 years ago. Now if someone would clean the oven for me, it would be great.
