filters needed changing

I took the old one out and put the new one in. I want to take this time to tell you that I have repaired a few of my appliances with very little difficulty and a much lower price than Kitchen Aid charges. One was a Micrwave vent, knobs on a stove top, little rubber knobs on the bottom of a grate of my cook top which was triple the cost from what I paid to Parts Select and the water seal on a dishwasher. Thing wear out and need to replaced; however most of these things can be repaired by the consumer.

Why a tenant would remove and discard the grease filters without replacing them is beyond me! But, I removed the filters from the package and slid them into place. Two minutes tops. I would like to add that I ordered these on Thursday afternoon, and I had them on Saturday; awesome customer service!

Broken handle

  • Customer: Raymond from Bishop CA
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Time to Complete: 15 - 30 mins
  • Tools Required: Pliers, Screw drivers

Remove the door by lifting up the hinge side so that the two hinge pins disengage from the steel hinge brackets. This can be a bit fiddly so just keep wiggling the door until one of them pops off.
Remove the plastic cover trim piece that surrrounds the window, exposing the phillips head screws that secure the door to the handle.
Remove the screws to un-install the old handle, they are deep set so if they fall out of the door you will need needle nose pliers to pout them back into the door.
Set teh new handle in place and tighten the screws down snuggly.
Retrace your steps... snap the plastic trim back in place and reset teh door on it's hinges (once again this can be a bit fiddly so take your time.

I bought the microwave on sale at Sears. the glass cooking tray was missing. It was to be ordered but after 2.5 months I had not received it so called Part Select and received the tray within 5 days! Ironically, the original one arrived the same day. I would recommend PartSelect for their prompt and very courteous service.

The repair was very easy, however the bulb was not the same as the original one. The original bulb had a bright setting and a low setting, but the replacement bulb was only the low setting bulb. There was no bright and dim operation. The switch on the microwave had the duel settings.

With microwave still attached under the cabinets, I removed 2 screws for the top grill and then one screw for the bulb cover plate. This provided access to the bulb. The replacement bulb was a simple plug-in.

The best part of this experience was the exploded parts diagram on the PartsSelect web site which allowed me to easily locate and order the correct part.

The handle broke .. bad design at the ends

  • Customer: Frederick from San Jose CA
  • Difficulty: Really easy
  • Time to Complete: 15 - 30 mins
  • Tools Required: Screw drivers

First, I had to find the part. Maytag wanted to sell me a door at the price of a new microwave. Parts select was expensive, but bargain compared to that. Prying with plastic tools separated the plastic interior trim around the door from the rest of the door exposing the phillips head screws that held the old handle. I actually pre-ran this before ordering the part. Then it was a simple job to screw on the new handle and then snap the plastic cover (interior trim) in place.

Opened light panel and replaced bulb. Very, very easy.

I am concerned, however, that this bulb does not emit the same amount of light as the one i replaced. The item number is the same, however, so I am perplexed at this bulb efficiency.

I followed the instructions in the owners' manual on how to access the bulb. Installation was a breeze. I couldn't believe how fast I received the replacement bulb from PartSelect. I ordered it on line one afternoon and Fedex delivered it to my front door before 9:00 A.M. the next day. Awesome service.

Part arrived on March 15. When I went to install it on March 16 I found that it was the wrong size. On the same day I emailed PartSelect of the problem. They responded via email the same day and advised that the correct filter had be located and was being shipped. In addition, a separate e-mail had shipping instructions and an address label. On March 18 the part was returned and presently I am awaiting the replacement part. Todate I am well pleased with PartSelect's responsiveness and handling of the matter.
