The nightmare was that this microwave is installed under the cabinet....in order to get to the light bulb I had to pull out my stove then squeeze into the space between the stove and counter....my old microwave light bult was much easier to change.....Shame on Whirlpool for making this so difficult.....must be a better way to cover the light bulb so that we do not need a screwdriver to remove the door to get to the light bulb
The trick is to align the bottom and top tabs first. This take a little coaxing and patience, but once these snap in, the tabs with the threads line up perfectly.
TIP: Thread the screws into the metal tabs while supporting the tabs with your hand BEFORE installing the grille, back them out, and then install. The threads were a little tight, and putting a lot of pressure on them while the tabs are in the slots risks breaking them off.
this problem started two months ago when my micro quit heating up, after all the research most agreed it was the magnetron. taking the micowave apart is not to difficult just make sure you bag all the screws accordingly. the high voltage area is on the right hand side behind a panel. caution there is a capacitor that will bite if your not careful, need to short the circuit between the two connectors with an insulated screw driver it will make a small pop or let it sit for awhile and it will discharge by itself. The magnetron worked for two days then quit, after more research i took it apart again and tightened up all the connections. Worked great on the bench but when i got it back up on the cabinet two dayslater kaput again. so again i take it down and replaced the two cheapest parts in the high voltage system, magnetron thermst fix, and h.v diode. benched tested it this time for 3 days cooking anything that i could think of, worked great. its been one week now afer installtion and it is still working.
The repair was simple and easy. It required a Phillips head screw driver only. I Removed the vent grill and replaced it with the new grill there were only two screws that needed to be removed then refastened. Total five minutes. I also replaced the grease filters which took about a minute total time. I do many of my own repairs to my home and appliances .I've found your service parts delivery prompt and precise.
Repair part delivered only a few days after purchasing on-line. The replacement part was the exact same as that on the original unit. Installation took about 1 minute involving 2 screws. Ordering was very easy.
Glass microwave turntable shattered while taken out for a cleaning.
PartSelect had the turntable I needed at the best price. Ordering was easy, but best of all, the part was delivered next day. I was able to insert the new turntable plate into the microwave and it was good as new.
when removing the bulb the base broke off and there was an ark took place as I had made a mistake and didn't unplug the unit before working on it , thought with the light switch off it was ok, but still had power in that area . So ALWAYS uplug before making repairs. The whole unit was dead and I checked for power at the plug and it was live. after unpluging I took the main control panel off and discovered a fuse was blown and replaced it along with a new socket and bulb and now it works like new . the fuses are inside small plastic capsuals so I back probed them with continuity light to find the blown fuse . It was quite simple once I found how to get the panels off. Just basic common sence will take care of most appliance problems thanks Louie Scholl
