We had to take off the black inside frame of the door in order to get to the screws which held the handle on. Getting that piece off was a real challenge for fear of cracking the plastic around the edge of the door.....it wasn't very easy. Once we got that off, the rest of the repair was simple, and replacing the inside frame went very smoothly.

This is not easy to do. I done it before to replace a broken window and it was a real bitch. I considered buying a new door rather then do it again. All I wanted to do was tighten two screws that hold the handle.
I used the advice found on your web site from a person who did it using quarters and putty knifes to remove the choke and the door insert. Sounded silly but it works like a charm. I advise anyone who needs to do this repair to use that info on your web site. It will save lots of frustration. Be sure to have plenty of quarters and a few pennies.

Replace Door Frame

Whirlpool advised that they did not have instructions to replace the door primarily because of liability issues. Without instructions I had to try and find an appliance service business to replace the door frame. Several were contacted and some indicated they would do it for $89.99 plus labor. Finally found one who would do the job for a total of $60. I would very likely have replaced the microwave since a new one would cost about $250; however, Whirlpool has changed specs and the new ones wouldn't fit the same space and work would be required to fit it to the space costing more. When I buy a new one it probably will be one that has a manual for assembly and a parts list.

I removed the two screws, removed the broken grill, popped in the new grill (after I ordered the correct color, did not get the biscuit color I thought I had ordered the first time) replaced the two screws....I was good to go. Strange that the tabs in the first place just fell apart...but reading others, find this seems to be a common problem. Simple as pie.

Took out the turntable parts to ensure I ordered the correct cooking tray. Matching those with photos of related parts on PartSelect worked great. Put turntable drive and support ring in place and cooking tray went in very easily. Plan to order a second one to have on hand for this rental property.
