MDG5500AWW Maytag Dryer - Instructions

I originally diagnosed as tension roller but found it to be a drum roller. Plastic had separated from the Babbitt bearing. So replaced both drum rollers and returned the tension roller. Only problem was the video was not for Maytag Neptune but a more generic dryer and I spent an extra hour try to reattach the drum belt. The video was the one that came with the email notification of part being shipped. Hook up to motor drive is backward from what the Neptune is. Eventually went looking for another video on my own and discovered the difference.

I viewed the roller replacement instruction video on the website which was very helpful since I had never replaced drum rollers. A leisurely pace of one hour to replace the two rollers, half of which was spent vacuuming the interior. Removed the front panel without tipping the dryer. Had to disconnect a ground wire to remove one bracket but otherwise only had to remove screws, slip rings and washers. No belt removal. Drum was pulled away from rollers but remained in cavity Reassembled without any problem. Ran the dryer - much quieter and no longer had the whirring noise.

Googled repair video on You Tube to assess ease of repair. Disassembled dryer front and top. Removed and replaced the above parts as well as earlier order of drum slides and drum rollers. Checked motor was working prior to reassembly. Reassembled and everything worked well once used a couple of times to allow things to stabilize.

After getting on-line to your site we looked up what the problem could be after receiving the dryer from a friend to transfer from electric to gas to save money. First we thought it to be the ignitor and after receiving it so quickly it still didn't work so went to your site again and found the Flame sensor. They were both defective and now it works wonderful!!! Your site also explains what and how to repair the appliance, which my husband appreciated! Cleaned and greased rear drum support rollers.Fine emory cloth on roller shafts. Replaced front support glide strips. Replaced blower, retaining ring and clamp.

Researched the common problem with "dryer not turning on", and tested the top three problems. Removed the dryer front casing and door, unbolted front dryer plate. Used a volt meter on two of the temp gauges, which were fine. Removed the upper back plate of the dryer to the wiring for the knobs and buttons. Used the volt meter on the dryer start button, which was also fine. Went back around to the front and removed the door switch. Tested it with the volt meter and bingo. Replaced that part, dryer works like normal.

first thing i did was look at the repair video 4 times. after that the replacement on of the guides were simple. thank you for suppling the video.

Removed old belt and installed new one by removing front panel and tub

Remove the two screws holding the door and lift straight up. Remove the two screws on oppostie side. Face can now be removed by pulling straight out at the top, then lifting face up off of tabs at the bottom. The two coils are at the bottom, held in by a retaining bracket. Remove the screws that hold the bracket. Replace the coils by unplugged their wires. That's it!

After watching the video on this web-site it was very easy. I took the time while I had the drum out to vacuum out everything inside the cabinet and sprayed the sealing felts with silicone spray before re-assembling the unit. Wallah!! No 'mo' squeaks. Tommy

Neither the washer or the dryer of the stacked unit would start. The website suggested that one of the causes could be the thermostat. I ordered a replacement that arrived quickly. Swapping the part only took minutes, and it started just fine.

changed fuse,radiant flame sensor. no help. bought a new dryer. i don't think the gas valuve was opening.everything seemed to be working properly,just no gas.

My husband, who normally calls a repairman for everything, followed the video and replaced the short baffle in less than 30 minutes from start to finish(this includes 2 or three trips up and down stairs to retrieve the right tools even though the video tells you the right tools to use). The part was identical to the original one and arrived in less than a week. Am very pleased with the whole process and am so thankful for the step by step video. The full repair was less than $30.00 for the part and my husbands time. I had been given a quote over the phone for this same repair of $250.00 to $375.00. It was a fairly simple repair to perform with the dryer in place. I simply opened the bottom/front access panel to start, the door removes if you pull up after opening. Then I disconnected the two and three wire connector to the two coils. Next I removed the bracket screws that fasten the coils to the valve assembly. This was a little difficult with the screw closest, because of the small clearance and #1 sized phillips(stubby would work well.) The rear screw I managed to remove by using both a small flathead screwdriver(hex shaped shaft) and an adjustable cresent wrench. At this point, it was a simple matter of installing the new coils and the bracket, and then reconnecting the two plugs. It almost made me want to do laundry.
