Grease Filter

If the microwave exhaust fan is not circulating air properly, there could be an issue with the grease filter. A dirty filter will cause your microwave to run less efficiently and can alter the taste or smell of your food. Filters should be changed every six months for maximum performance. These silver, aluminum filters are sold separately, and are approximately 13 3/8 inches long x 5 7/8 inches wide. Measure your current filter to assure correct replacement. Check your grease filters regularly for particles and grease buildup to see if cleaning is necessary. If there is any visible damage to the filter, it should be replaced straight away.

Charcoal Air Filters

The charcoal filter is used in microwaves to remove food odors from the air. If your filter is damaged or strong odors are coming from your microwave, it is best to replace this part. The only tool needed for this repair is a Phillips screwdriver. First, remove screws at the top of microwave to access the filter. Next, remove filter and insert new filter by pushing it all the way back, so the edges hit the two tabs. The front edge of the filter should rest at the bottom of the cavity. Make sure to replace the grill after installing the new filter. Remember to unplug your microwave from the power source before the installation process. This part is metallic and measures about 12 inches wide and 6 inches deep.

Fuse

If your microwave is not turning on it could be due to your fuse needing to be replaced. This part protects the microwave by shutting it off if there is an electrical surge. This fuse is just over an inch long, is metallic on both ends and ceramic in the middle. Before beginning this repair, unplug the appliance and wait a few minutes before starting. Remove the outer cabinet which is held in place with two screws. You will then locate the power cord which will lead you to the fuse holder. Determine if the fuse has blown. Using an ohmmeter, you should be able to figure out if it has blown. A proper reading is zero ohms, if it reads as anything else then your fuse has in fact blown. Simply snap the old fuse out of place and place the new one in.

No tools are required for this repair. It is recommended to check the support ring before ordering the drive coupling in case the wheels are broken. First -- and this was the key to success -- I watched a couple of Youtube videos on "Replacing a microwave door handle". As one video suggested, I placed a large towel underneath where I was working (over the stovetop) to catch any falling parts but this proved unnecessary. Once I removed the two screws from the end of the door, the inside of the door prie... read more

I took the old one out and put the new one in. I want to take this time to tell you that I have repaired a few of my appliances with very little difficulty and a much lower price than Kitchen Aid charges. One was a Micrwave vent, knobs on a stove top, little rubber knobs on the bottom of a grate of my cook top which was triple the cost from what I paid to ... read more
