KEYS850JQ1 KitchenAid Dryer - Instructions

I followed instuctions, also watched a how to vidio, had a little problem reinstallig front cover. The job took a little over a hour. The squeel was coming from old style belt tensioner.

I followed exactly the video. It really was that simple. My 5 year old even helped me unscrew the nuts. The Thermostat was on the lint shaft and unscrewed easily. Once out I removed the wires. The hardest part was removing the wires, They were really tight. I replaced the wires and screwed in the part. Before I replaced the back I cleaned out the lint tube and turned on the dryer. I saw the flame and the heater kicked right on. I replaced the back and was done. *****However the next time the dryer went the heat didn't remain on and turned off too soon. I did some more research and found you usually need to replace the thermal fuse at the same time on Whirlpool units. So I have ordered the part and will let you know if kept the heater from turning off too soon.

Replaced thermal fuse. Simple job. Remove back panel, two blue wires, unscrew white fuse and replace. Also cleaned out the lint trap which I believe cause the overheating that killed the thermal fuse. When outside of dryer gets hot to the touch it's a good idea to vacuum out the lint trap before you melt the thermal fuse. Now my dryer surface is just luke warm to the touch while running.

(Always unplug dryer before making any repairs) I opened the dryer and checked the heating element. Making sure that the connection was good and nothing was damaged, I determined the problem was overheated wires. They melted and lots connection. I replaced them with the heating element wire connection kit. Easy to install and simple to get right. I cleaned the dryer again with a vaccum cleaner, removing all the lint, and checked the vents, making sure they were clear...I turned the breaker on (it was tripped when the dryer overheated)and everything worked great.

The video you had of my dryer was different then my dryer and the pulley was in the middle of the bottom and the motor and fan were in front of it. I had to replace the belt without being able to see what I was doing. I couldn't get it at first then realized there was tension on the pulley wheel and had to pull it towards the other wheel in order to get the belt on there. Once I pulled the wheel it went on really easy. My first time working on a dryer but I knew I could do it myself.

removed the back panel,propped up the top, and removed the front panel, and replaced the rear seal, the belt, and idler pulley, and put back together the opposite of taking it apart.

Well, to Figure the issue I took the entire thing apart. Actually a lot more than needed. I found the torn belt and ordered it. I did not realize I may need a new belt tensioner which is sold with a wheel for the belt to wrap around and be tensioned by. Actually the original just utilized a rubber c or u shaped design(no wheel) for the belt to slide over. Anyways, instead of ordering and waiting for a new wheeled belt tensioner, I installed new belt with all original parts and working fine. I did oil up the drum rollers to reduce noise. And since I took the whole thing apart I cleaned the lint from every place it could hide. Ps a coke can is said to be helpful to hold the drum up while installing the belt but I found a jug of laundry detergent did better. Totally easy project for someone with no appliance repair history

The broken belt was found when I opened the dryer. The part number was on the belt and a quick online search led me to PartSelect. The part was available, delivered in less than 2 days and there was an online video showing the entire repair in detail.

My ground wire in my electrical box was not connected.

flipped top up, removed 2 5/16 screws and removed front face. removed drum and belt. removed retaining clips on rollers and removed wheels. replaced all clips and new wheels and installed new belt on drum and reassembled in reverse order

Un plug the Elect. The two screws that hold the lent screen in place and the top. I took them out and I used a putty knife to open the top of the dry. un plug the switch And take out the two screws under the switch. That was all too it. Just like the instructor said .

Step 1: remove new latch from bag in which part comes. Step 2: push latch into hole where the other latch was. Step 3: enjoy having a dryer you dont have to hold closed with a folding chair.

Watched video on You Tube, ordered parts online and used excellent instructions sent with belt and other parts in kit. Turn power off by unplugging cord, lift out lint screen, remove screws in lint screen slot, pry up top of dryer with wood chisel or heavy screwdriver, unplug wires top front of dryer, remove self-tapping screws holding front panel in place, lift out drum, remove and replace all parts included in kit, lifted drum back into place, placed detergent bottle under drum to hold it in place while attaching new belt, asked wife to hold lightweight drum in place while I reattached electrical wires and front of dryer. Lowered top of dryer into place and reinstalled lint screen, Be careful! Panels are thin and cut like a knife. Also the dryer lid can fall if you slide the dryer into the wall while working below.

Motor was tight, very hard to turn by hand. take the back motor mount strap off and you will be able to put an adjustable wrench on the shaft of the blower. you should be able to put vice grips on the pulley end and turn motor counter clock wise (CCW) to let handle of vice grips rest against the bottom of the machine and turn adjustable wrench CCW to turn off blower wheel. However, the one I did, the wheel was so tight I ended up having to break the blower wheel down small enough so I could pull the motor out. remove the front motor mount strap and pull the motor out. Install the new motor wheel and motor in the revers order. Set motor in place, install front motor mount strap, put blower wheel in from the back of the machine and start treading on the motor shaft. Then,from the front, tighten the blower with wrenches turning clock wise and put machine back together. Always unplug machine whenever working on it.
