Old large 8" stove burner had burnt out, needed replace
Simply took the replacement part ( PS244040, GE WB30X341) and did the quick direct swap using all the new pieces in the burner kit. UNPLUG the stove. Undo the titl arm screw, remove the plastic wire isolation block (2 spring clips), unscrew the 3 wires to the elements, screw the 3 wires to the new element, put in new bakelite wire isolation block with spring clips to keep the wires seperated, mount and titghten the tilt arm screw. Make sure the burner sits even and flat in the stove top. Plug the stove back in and test.
Just pushed the new timer knobs onto the stem. They fit and now I can set the oven timer without having to use a pair of pliers to grip the stem and turn it.
Two of the knobs fit perfectly.
The stem for the the clock was broken off and there was not enough of the stem left for the new knob to fit.
Replaced the bake element (lower element) in the small oven
Disconnected range from power. Removed small / lower shield that protects element connectors from rear of range. Disconnected the power lines from the element using screwdriver. Removed racks and liner from oven. Removed screws at rear of oven box that hold old element. Removed the old element. Reversed steps to install replacement heating element. Tested oven heating using oven thermometer.
Turn off electricity to the oven. A socket set was needed for the small screws in my old oven. Once the screws were removed the element came off easily from two wires in the oven. You have to be careful when handling the wires that they don’t fall back into the oven. The new part was attached to the two wires, screws were tightened on the new element and that was it. When the oven was turned on the new element smoked a little but I saw on the video that is normal.
First I made sure the electricity was off. Then, I flipped the burner up, and loosened the screwon the hinge. This allowed the burner to extend onto the cook surface. After loosening the clips holding the ceramic insulator together, the wires to the element were exposed. The wires were then transferred to the new burner element from their corresponding position on the old one. The new ceramic insulator was affixed over the wire with clips, and the hinge reattached. The chrome ring was worked over the burner, and the burner reseated in its proper cook poistion. Testing confirmed the burner to now work as new.
Too easy to describe. Just lifted out the old rings and popped in the new ones. I logged into GE's website, put in my stovetop's requirements for size and type of trim rings, and was taken to partselect's site where I found what I needed. I ordered it and it came in less than a week!
There was no burner listed like 40 yr old burner that failed. Got one the same size and connections. Cut old burner out of the stainless steel ring and new burner fit right in. New burner works great
The instructions on striping the wires was slightly confusing.
I stripped one wire on the first burner. Then I realized that the terminals were the ones that could be left. Finding a replacement terminal has proved to be difficult. Once I realized my mistake I could change the other three burners very easily.
I had an appliance guy replace a burner(Calrod unit)on my 47 year-old GE range, but he didn't tell me that the original trim ring wouldn't fit. I decided to look up on PartSelect to see if I could get one to fit the new burner, and I did! Fits perfectly......no tools needed.
Replaced old bake element by removing two screws holding it to back of oven. Disconnected old bake element from lead wires by removing two other screws. Installed new bake element by reversing the process. Only issue is that the tabs on the element that connect to the leads are easily bent and you need to use vise-grips to keep from bending them.
