HTW4400TQ0 Magic Chef Washer - Instructions

When my 13 yr old washer stopped working the timing was not at all good to spend money on a new one. I have two of my children getting marriied within the next year and funds are tight. I decided to troubleshoot it myself online by googling my problem. I found out what I thought would be the parts I needed, I took a chance and ordered them. The bonus was the videos that you emailed me with the complete installation instructions. I am a banker and a 53 yr old woman ...not exactly a handy man. With your videos I was able to fix my washer by my self for just the cost of parts...so my wedding budget is still in place. Unplugged washer. Used paint scrapper to pop each side of control panel loose. Used nut driver to remove grounding screw. Pulled small gray tab toward front to pop switch loosen switch and pop it out. Lowered lid about half way to ensure cover arm engaged the switch as I snapped switch into switch cut out. Tighened ground screw with nut driver and plugged washer back into wall outlet. Snapped control panel back down.

I actually thought the job of replacing the clutch was more difficult than it actually was. I simply watched the video on how to do it and it was really a task that pretty much anyone could do. The only bit of trouble I had was putting the C-shaped wire clip back on the shaft to hold the clutch in place......other than that everything else was pretty easy.....I would definately use Partselect again...

After watching some on-line vids, I determined it was the center post, or tub, gasket at the bottom. A cheap part, and easy to snap-out the old and snap-in the new - But - I had to dissassemble the washer into individual washer component molecules. Luckily, I'd done this recently to replace the clutch drive, then the motor, then this. Not too bad, really. Washer body off (2 screws and two snap-links); agitator out (7/16" socket on extension); bang off tub nut (heavy hammer and punch); bang off drive block (hammer again); and pull tub up an out. Tub drain disconnected (pliers); pull off level sensing tube; three spring mounts (nutdriver); then just yank tub up. Poke out Centerpost gasket; snap in a new one; reassemble. Piece of cake.

i did the repair by myself but based on the video that part repair provided me with.

2nd time partselact has saved my ~13 year old washer for a total of ~40$ Entered the symptom and they told me more than likely what to look for and VIOLA ! Would've been easy to spend $200 each time my washer quit working but with a suggestion from a menu and even a video to show me how I revived my old $400 AMERICAN made washer to wash another day. After repair, had to re-align the front head of the cabinet several times to get it to slide in correctly.I saved myself the cost of a repair service call. Followed instructions at the following youtube.

Following the video posted with the part made this repair a piece of cake, well documented, filmed, great explanations of tools needed and how to do it all. This is a fantastic site for do it yourself people with a little bit of mechanical skills. BTW I've been a hvy. eqt. mech. for over 40 years so this is something different to tangle with and a lot cleaner. Thanks so much for your time and consideration in produceing this instructional video, and keep up the excellent work.

Had a laptop with the repair video on next to washer and paused after each set of instructions to complete each task. Went perfectly! Only tricky part was fitting the cover back but eventually got it with a bit of jiggling. Very impressed with the instructional video as everything was where they showed it and came apart exactly as explained and more importantly went back together correctly.

I was thrilled that the agitator parts were so easy to replace, but that didn't totally fix my problem. I looked underneath the washer and found black rubber shavings from a worn part and looked online and found that the problem was most likely the Direct Drive Motor Coupling. I watched the video and ordered the part. The coupling was actually broken. After replacing the part, the washer works great...better than it has in years. I think I will work on our dryer now.

Followed website instructions, worked for a couple days, appears it needs clutch or possibly transmission(red oil present)

one thing that you do not need to do is to remove the pump from the motor, I tried to remove it as per the instructions but the pump cracked,remove both inlet and outlet hoses from the pump and remove the pump and motor together, don't try to take them apart, you don't need to, thanks

Did not know problem or how to access - thought the back came off washer. Typed in symptoms and it pretty much pinpointed the most likely cause. Watched video on how to take it apart (BTW the front and sides come off, NOT the back). Followed the guide, took motor off and sure enough one of the plastic couplers was cracked. Ordered from PartSelect and with regular shipping the cost was under $20 (ordered Tues. night, had it by Thurs.) Installed part - note as someone else said the new piece has metal inserts which make it really snug to go around the drive shaft, but the tip about using an oversized socket and some light taps to get it on worked liked a charm. Put it all back together (getting case back on was toughest part)and its been working fine for the last week - heavy & lite loads. Have to say was thinking the whole thing needed to be replaced (sound & age) but for $20 it was worth the shot...Glad i came here first!

It was actually much easier than I expected. The worst part was dealing with the gear oil as I drained it to clean out the plastic pieces that came off the gear. To see how to fix things like this, I went to Google, enter my model and what the problem was and watched a repairman do it. It seemed easy and it was.
