Solenoid and screws rust until the solenoid will not function and the assembly flapper will not close.

Removed all parts necessary, solenoid, recess retainer, dispencer door recess crank, and assembly flapper. Hardest part was getting old highly rusted screws out so I could remove the necessary parts. I replaced all screws with stainless steal screws, so the next time they will come out easier. This is the second time i've had to replace the solenoid because of rusty solenoid plunger, very poor design, not to mention the couple times i've taken the solenoid out to clean off the rust, but eventually its stops working because of the excessive rust on the plunger.

Used a putty knife to pry trim up around dispensing unit. Look up behind bottom edge of control panel for three small holes.(use flashlight) Used a small (1/8") phillips screwdriver to press up in holes to release panel. Remove flapper unit and selenoid. I changed black rubber flapper and solenoid. The solenoid is designed to hold the flapper unit open to allow all the cubes to clear the chute and it then is closed by the small spring after the delay. Works fine!

My GE Arctica refrigerator was constantly freezing up the chute that drops the ice. I googled the problem and found a youtube video on how to replace the solenoid and the dispenser door flapper. Repair was simple, removed the front panel with a small screwdriver, removed the circuit board and rear plastic assembly. Unscrewed the 2 screws holding the solenoid in place and snapped out the old flapper. Immediately I could tell the problem because the flapper was warped an not allowing a seal to form on the door. Youtube is great and I frequently go there to see if someone has made a video with the maintenance problems that I am having around the house. PartsSelect had my replacements here in one day. Saved a couple of hundred on a service call.

Watched a video as prep. Popped plastic trim off(always scary, thinking plastic will break and it won't go back on), unscrewed control panel and popped wires off. replaced the items I had bought except micro switch which was fine. cleaned all the muck off the innards, replaced all plastic without anguish. I filled a glass with ice and watched with glee as the flapper slammed shut, keeping room air out and curing my iced up icemaker problem. God bless PartSelect!

I tried to follow the video...it looked easy enough to do and would have been if the trim came off! I had to go to the reviewer who said to undo the 3 springs under the keypad (found on the white part behind the touchpad). I just took an eyeglass screwdriver and pushed up...it was easy to follow the solenoid installation video from there! If I can do it...anyone can! I'm a 65year old female.

The first thing I did before starting the repair was watch the 2 videos. I followed the directions step by step and within an hour I had a functioning ice maker again. I had searched all over the web and the other sites were of no help. Your site really made it easy to figure out the problem and order the right parts. I now have a problem with my dishwasher so I will be back on your site soon. Thanks!

Freezer kept "icing up" because flapper door would not close.

Video and instructions were very thorough, but on my paticular freezer, the inside door shelves had to be removed (30 screws) to get to the face place to release the door controls. Newer models can be accessed from the front. After removing front cover, repairs were very simple. Found that the solenoid was "rusted" and would not function. Easy replacement. Order new flapper, but was not needed (have a spare now...haha). When putting back together, the door did not seal at top...had to adjust how I tightened screws (pattern - top to bottom) to keep door from "warping". Did not think that the small amount of torque on the screws could "warp" a door so easily. After re-torqueing the screws, moved the top hinge just a little and door again sealed correctly. Will keep this site "bookmarked" for all my future appliance needs. Never had customer service so thorough. Amazing that I order about 5:00 pm on a Thursday and parts were at my door just after lunch on Friday...amazing service. Thanks for the instructions, video and CS.

The Ice ejector flap was hanging

The ice maker was frosting up and the flap was sticking open. Only one negative comment! The Parts Diagram did not show how to remove the exterior trim plate to get to the parts. Once I figured that out, it was an easy installation and the ice maker ejects the ice properly and the flap closes properly. I could do the install in 20 minutes next time. Thanks for your help. with a Philip screw driver push up the control module which have three holes by the push dispenser...changed the spring,dispenser door assembly/flapper,solenoid and recess crank.after putting everything back together dispenser works fine..

Initial Problem was no water coming out of door dispenser but found housing supporting the board and dispenser was broken

1. Water not coming out of water dispenser in door. 2. Watched video and did trouble shooting and found that the water was not getting from the rear to the line connection at the bottom of the freezer door (outside the door). Ordered and installed the Double Outlet Water Valve in the rear of the refrigerator. I checked to make sure the water pressure was good and it was. After installation I still could not get water at the dispenser. I disconnected the line connection at the bottom of the door again and had water to the connection but not up through the door. 3. I watched the tape and disassembled the dispenser mechanism. I found that the flapper valve was not closing properly. There was frost on the inside of the ice slide in side the freezer door and water and cold air was coming out the ice slide to the outside of the refrigerator door. 4. I tried to close the flap and use the push mechanism while it was disassembled and found that the dispenser housing shield was broken where the left spring is attached that operates the actuator (black) where you put your glass to dispense ice and water. I ordered that part. After ordering that, I watched another video and found out that the ice dispenser flapper needed to be replaced. I ordered the flapper, spring, solenoid, and recess crank. Once all the parts arrived, I installed then via the instructions from the video and some figuring it out. It did not say how to install the dispenser housing shield so I just reversed engineered it from how it came off. Once I got all parts on, I tried the water and it still did not work. I figured out that the water was still frozen about two inches inside the water line at the dispenser down to about 18 inches into the pipe. I used a hair dryer and tried to thaw it out. No luck. It was late so I quit working. the next morning I tried the water and it worked. Now everything works perfectly and no frost and no cold air coming out of the flapper. I concluded that the flapper malfunction caused the freezer air to blow on the water dispenser pipe therefore freezing it. Since I fixed the flapper, the line thawed overnight and is working great. I think the back double outlet water valve went bad because we kept pushing the lever to try to get the water to flow and eventually burned it out. That is a guess on my part. We should have watched the great videos before we did more damage. The videos are excellent and the repair was easy after the troubleshooting was complete. Good luck with your repairs.

Flap in shut where Ice comes from Icemaker to outside of door would not open causing ice cubes to build up so when you opened the door they fell all over the floor.

Simple fix with information furnished online with the Dispenser Door Solenoid Assembly. Unplug fridge, remove selection panel by pulling out gently at the bottom until it releases then unplug the 3 connectors, remove next panel by unscrewing the 4 corner screws, then remove the solenoid by loosening the top screw and removing the two on the bottom, wipe all clean and reassemble in reverse with new solenoid hanging piston over ice door flapper lever first then sliding it into solenoid as you move it into position. Easy fix....$35 hopefully extended the life of a faithful older fridge for a few more years since it work/looks new.

I simply followed the video instructions and it was a breeze, so easy I couldn't believe it . The GE repairman where going to charge me approx. $265. 00 for this repair and another service person wanted to charge me $ 100.00 just to remove and replace these items that I purchased from you . cover would not come off

Removed the cover installed parts. Parts were very simple cover was a major problem. Instructions stated "simply remove cover by pushing on cover and clips will release" They dont and cover broke.
