Dispenser Door Assembly or Flapper

The dispenser door assembly (or flapper) is what opens to release the ice once the lever has been pressed. This part mounts in the ice dispenser. The cranker no longer comes with this part. You can use the original crank. The crank is sold separately depending on the model number of the appliance. For this repair, all you will need is a Phillips screw driver and a small flat blade. Disconnect the power, remove the escutcheon from around the dispenser, lift up the control panel, disconnect all wire connectors, use a screwdriver to remove all four screws of the housing, and lift the housing out. You will now see the flapper: push the tabs that are securing it in place to remove the piece, install the new flapper by lining it up and snapping into place.

Refrigertor water dispenser not working BUT ice machine is working

The very first symptom here is important! The door water dispenser is not working but the ice macine is working. The refrigerator made continous "whooing" sounds that increased and decreased in pitch. Sounded like a ghost. Would keep us up at night. Also noticed that the heater was not heating under the evaporator coils.

After checking the stories, the consensus of opinion was to change the mother board. I had a tremendous help from Tom Paone at quality@applianceeducator.com. He also told me to change the motherboard but to make sure that the coils were totally defrosted before starting up the refrigerator after changing the board.
