My ice maker has stopped releasing the ice cubes. It fills with water and freezes the cubes but they will not drop into the container. Before we took out the water filter it was only making 2 cubes instead of 5. Now that we have removed the filter we have 5 cubes but they will not release even after 24 hours. Do we need a new mold and heater assembly or a thermostat? Is there an instruction manual on how to remove the ice maker?

Hello Melvin, Thank you for your inquiry. Check the line going from the water inlet valve to make sure it is not cracked or clogged and test the water inlet valve with a multimeter to see if it is working and getting water to the ice mold. You can also test the thermostat with a multimeter as well. You can test the ice maker itself by using a piece of insulated wire with the ends stripped. Most heat release ice makers will have a removable cover at the front. Behind the cover is a series of electrical test points that can be used to diagnose the ice maker. The unit can be manually operated by inserting an insulated jumper wire into test points “T” and “H” to initiate a “test harvest”. The jumper should be insulated 14 gauge solid wire that has the insulation stripped back about 3/4 of an inch on both ends, and bent into a “U” shape. When inserted into the test points for 5 to 10 seconds, the motor should start and the cycle will continue on its own. You may have to manually close the freezer door switch for this to operate. This test will simulate a real harvest cycle and will operate the ejector blades, shut off arm and the fill valve in the proper sequence, and will allow you to do a proper diagnosis. This is a live voltage test and should only be performed by a qualified person. If the motor does not start, you can verify that you have power to the ice maker at test points “L” and “N”. If the ice maker is getting power and does not perform a cycle, then the module will need to be replaced. Otherwise, the ice mold and heater would need to be replaced. We do not have an instruction manual on how to remove the ice maker at this time, but we have included links to some of our videos on ice maker replacement to give you a general idea of the procedure, and there are some instructions from other customers listed under part# PS11749917. Hope this helps!

Hello, The ice machine in my Whirlpool model gs2shaxkb01 does not work. after having made all the checks that you talk about on your site everything is functional such as: water supply is correct because the water goes to the distributor of the ice machine. i can use the water but there is no manufactured ice. the transmitter and receiver are working. when i connect the ice machine there are 120 volts from the refrigerator cable which powers the ice machine but the power does not go to the engine. what do you think would be the problem?
