DU6550P Magic Chef Dishwasher - Instructions

Installing the door gasket is relatively easy, it just pushes in place without any adhesive. Just make sure it is even on both sides
You can to pull it out and reinstall to even it all way around the door if needed.
You may also find a new gasket will make to door a little harder to close. I presume it will be easier to close over time.
I also installed a new float at the same time but that repair is very difficult, takes specialized tools and lots of patience.

After I got the new springs, I pulled the dishwasher out and the springs were fine but the little plastic piece that attaches the spring to the door was gone. So now I had to order the that piece and wait again.

The fix was straight forward and easy to figure out. I followed the very easy instructions to learn any tips that would make the job go without any problems.

At first I was confused on how to repair this, but once I was able to unscrew the large cover to reveal the inside area, it became clear on which part to replace. The screws were a star type, in which I was able to use an old IKEA hex wrench. There is a small plastic tip that unscrews in the center of this part. Once you unscrew that, the part comes right out. This is my second time ordering a part from these guys for this washer. They are awesome!! The part came in 2 days, so happy!!

This part broke when I was attempting to remove the Spray arm to check below for debris etc. What also turned out to be the case was that despite semi-annual white vinegar cleaning wash cycles I'd done over the years to keep the unit fit - the top screw assembly had frozen to the Lower Spray Arm Support by hard water calcium build up. I eventually had to use channel grips to separate the broken off Lower Spray Arm Support screw head from the upper screw plastic piece and clean out its threads to be sure that I didn't need to order a replacement for it as well. After ordering the Lower Spray Arm Support part along with the upper spray arm and holding nut I proceeded to remove the 3 screws with the appropriate Allen wrench that hold the large water filter cover - only to find about a 1/4-1/2 inch build up of calcium in the well of the washer. I used the back side of a table spoon to carefully remove the massive calcium build up - making sure not to hurt the spring loaded water control mechanism in the front. Added a gallon of hot water and had the washer drain itself several times until it was more or less free of white calcium. I replaced the Lower Spray Arm Support making sure to include the original floater washer ring from before replacing the unit and thumb tightening down the plastic screw that holds this into place. The blades of the Lower Spray Arm Support need to be turned so as not to be hit by the large water filter cover's spring loaded mechanism on the bottom. If you forgot which side of this goes forward look for the arrow on one of the 3 screw holes that hold it in place - this one should line up with the most forward screw hole. Replace the 3 screws that hold the water filter in place. line up the Upper spray arm so that the notches on the bottom match the Lower Spray Arm Support arms. be sure to replace the inner pop-up water sprayer before lowering and screwing the plastic holding assembly onto the Lower Spray Arm Support firmly. Last but not least I gently removed the Upper Spray Arm; unscrewed the Upper Spray Arm Nut - replaced the new Upper Spray Arm Nut by screwing it in firmly and gently replaced the new Upper Spray Arm. I ran a long pots and pan heated wash cycle with a gallon of white vinegar (NO SOAP ETC) before starting to use the machine - AWESOME results - dishes are again all clean - no calcium fog on the crystal, plates or dishes - ALL GOOD! ;-) Highly recommend replacing the Upper Spray Arm AND Nut if you are doing anything else - this really helps and the cost is low.

We first ordered the wrong part, but thankfully partselect was happy to return the item. I first got to say identifying the right part is a lot easier if you know what it looked like before it broke! Upon receiving the corrected part much faster than we expected (2 days on a saturday!) I began to assess the situation. I needed a star-type bit for a screw driver to remove the screws. Thankfully it was a standard size that comes in most cheap screwdriver kits. I removed the 3 screws on the round lid at the bottom that covered the piece, removed the old center spray nozzle. I then tried to put the old one on and later discovered the small plastic piece I thought was the place to mount it on was actually the old part broken. I unscrewed the old piece and put the new one on, made sure it was tight. I replaced the round lid that covered the other piece up, put the spray arm on and the center spray jet inside, screwed it down tight. Rotated the spray arm to make sure it moved freely. We then turned the dish washer on to make sure it was spinning and pumping water, etc. Everything appeared to be working fine, so we loaded it up with dishes and the dish washer washed much better than it had in the past. The dish washer came with the trailer, so we don't know how old it is for sure. We had a problem with the dishes on the top not getting washed properly if you don't load the bottom rack just right. We later noticed on a previous comment that others had a problem with the top rack not getting clean because of this part. I highly recommend this site to anyone fixing any home appliance! Lately we've been having a lot of repair expenses and this site saved us some serious money! We expected to have to buy a new dish washer, because the cost of a repairman to fix it would likely to exceed the cost of a new dish washer. We've been researching doing fix-it jobs ourself and any time we can safely repair something ourself, we try our best to do it. I especially love the breakdown of the parts. I'm not a mechanic, plumber, etc. I am a Ham Radio Operator who used to work as a Cashier. I don't know what you call all the parts, and some I have no clue what they do, but I can look at the picture and find a part that looks like what I need! I can look at the break-down page and see what must be removed to get to the part. In short, I'm an average guy who used the information available to me to fix the dish washer myself. When a company like partselect can enable a average guy to repair something for a fraction of the cost of paying a professional, that's definitely an innovative idea! A lot of the instructions on this site really lack the description of how to fix it. Granted, this job, once you look at it is incredibly simple! The only thing I have to say is make sure you have a star bit to take off the screws before you begin. Having the right tools to begin makes it go much quicker.

Removed gasket using needle-nose pliers, replaced with new gasket using just my fingers, process took a few minutes. Leak is gone.

Gasket on my Maytag dishwasher was not making a good seal. I found PartSelect online. Entered my model number and make. Placed my order and received it the next day. The cost of the part reasonable. The website user friendly. Love PartSelect.

It took less then 10 minutes to rplace the new gasket. I think that Maytag is way ahead of the competion on this. The Dishwasher is now back to working and no more leaks.

Lift out old basket; insert replacement. Adding the handle was not really necessary, but I did. That just required a little pressure and flexing of handle. Simple!
