It works with the heating element to seal the receptacle opening where the heating element is attached. The rubber washer is used to prevent water leaking from your dishwasher during its cycle. Ordered both drain & wash impeller kit and the drain check valve with o-ring. Decided to test the cheaper drain check valve first. Safety first, so unplug the dryer. Next remove the two phillips head screws @ lower left and right front corners and take the front panel off.
