Replacing the ice maker was the easy part, next morning still no ice so called repairman, replaced fuse in wiring harness, next morning still no ice, called repairman again to find out that thermostat in brand new ice maker is bad, had to reuse old thermostat to make new ice maker work so could not return it to partselect.com. New ice maker cost $108 and repairman $90, expensive lesson learned.

The Ice maker unit had to be removed and the shaft had to also be removed, which required dis-assembling the motor drive. The thickness of the shaft and the bearing fill cup prevents it from simply pushing it in place. Other than that I have Ice.

I lowered the arm on the icemaker and closed the door to the freezer. Then I opened the door to fridge, took out a Guinness, popped the top, and sat down to savor my success.

  • Customer: Jane from Albuquerque, NM
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Time to Complete: 15 - 30 mins
  • Tools Required: Pliers, Screw drivers, Socket set

Referencing the info/schematics you have on your website, I unscrewed/unattached top-front panel (carefully), from behind the panel you have to detach the wires (2) from the switch, pushed "in" the switch to remove, put in new switch and attach wires to test BEFORE remounting panel. Tada!! Thank you PartSelect! You saved me at least $80...would have been at least $100 to have a repair person come to the house!

Light switch wasn't working.. As I would close the door I would notice our frig light wasn't going off...

  • Customer: David from Hemet, CA
  • Difficulty: Really Easy
  • Time to Complete: Less than 15 mins
  • Tools Required: Pliers, Screw drivers
  • 2 of 3 people found this instruction helpful
I simply removed the old switch by gently pulling down on the old switch with a screwdriver. When it was about half way out I just gently pulled down on the old switch and it popped out... I removed the two connectors attached to the old switch by pulling on the connectors with a pliers...I tried using my fingers but wasn't able to pull the connectors off so I used pliers. It worked perfectly.. When pulling off the old connectors, make sure you attach the new switch to the same tabs on the new switch... It was very easy to do and took under 5 mins.....The light switch works perfect....P.S. You should unplug the frig while making the connection just in case....Safety first....!!!

Followed the online PartSelect video instructions and it was very helpful. The ice maker has to cycle through before it starts making ice so don't be alarmed when nothing happens when you first hook it up.

First, the part arrived within 2 days of ordering. And this part wasn't available anywhere but here. Here's how hard it was to fix:

Open package. Glance over instructions. Slide shelf in groove. Align drawers and mount to shelf.

Done.
