The refrigerator section of my side by side was not getting as cold as it should have been.

It was easy after finding PartSelect online. It wasn't obvious at first that my evaporator core(in back of freezer side) was frosting over, (since I have a flat white panel that is about 8 x 30 inches covering it), until I reached inside and ran my fingers over the cover and noticed a thin layer of frost on it. At this point I told my buddies to go get ice for our beer cuz I was fixin to do a lock out/tag out on the Fridge. Seriously, Do disconnect the electrical power before taking it apart. After taking the 9 screws (6-1/4" hex heads & 3-#2 phillips)out and removing the panel, I saw that the evaporator core was completely frosted over. I then put a large towel in the bottom and let it thaw for a day. Next day after getting the old Defrost Heater Kit with Thermostat out (4-#2 phillips, plug-in electrical connection, thermostat snap on clip) , I noticed it was burnt inside the filaments and did not pass the continuity test. I then ordered my part from PartSelect and took the oppurtunity to clean my fridge spotless. 3 business days later, I received my part, installed it, and now have a "like new" refrigertor. Actual repair time - 30 minutes, Overall down time - 4 days, Saving the cost of a new Fridge - a heck of lot more beer!

just unscrewed the 3 screws, attached the rounded plug that came with the unit and screwed back only 2 screws. ice magic in about a couple of hours

water valve leak

This Valve Has 2 Different Size Water Lines Going In To It And They Are Different Diameters.Each Has Its Own Collar That Locks The Lines Into It. Make Sure That You Put The Right Size Collar Over The Line Before You Insert It Into The Valve, Because Once You Put The Line In You Cant Pull It Back Out Without Messing Up The Valve. Make Sure It Is Right Because You Only Get One Shot At It.

Ice Maker was leaking all over freezer compartment

Pulled out the fridge, took off the cardboard back. Get a nut driver instead of screwdriver (easier). TURN OFF WATER NOW. UNPLUG FRIDGE NOW. Removed one screw holding valve. Pulled off electrical connectors. Use two small adjustable wrenches to remove water lines. Tag the plastic tubes (I marked RED and BLUE). Grab the new valve and try to stuff it into the same space. Whoops ! Dang plastic housing protecting the electrical from the water is in the way. Have to cut most of it out to make it fit. By the way, DONT follow the instructions about take the bracket off the OLD solenoid. You don't need it. Just throw it away. Connect the wires (remember to use the adapters sent with the new solenoid) Mount the new solenoid (now that the plastic is out of the way) with the one screw (nut driver). Hook up the supply water line (wrenches). Hook up the plastic tubes (aren't you glad you marked them ?). The tubes just push into the new solenoid, no more threads. I just left the plastic nuts on the tubing. TURN ON THE WATER. Check your connections for leaking. Do this before plugging in the fridge. If OK, plug in the fridge. Run some water on the door, look in about an hour to see if cubes are making now. Put cardboard back on fridge. Push fridge back against wall. CONGRATULATE YOURSELF ON A JOB WELL DONE.

freezer freezing, refrig warm

pretty straight forward,removed threw screws to replace the defrost timer and reverse the procedure. To replace the defrost unit 1st removed metal back plate in freezer. Step 2 defrost freezer. step 3 remove four screws that hold defrost elements in freezer compartment. Step 4 install new defrost elements and secure back in place with four screws. step 5 optional read old defrost heaters with ohm meter to confirm the defective part. step 6 plug back in frig and enjoy a cool brewski ahhhhh. By the way only one defrost element was bad (open) but as mentioned in literature which came with new derost elements I replaced both of them. Thanks again for all the help on this, saved me $2000 on a new frig.

Motor rattled loudly

Turned off the refridgerator. Took everything out of the freezer compartment & put into ice chest with pleanty of ice on top. Removed 2 screws holding the ice maker in place & placed ice maker aside. Removed shelf. Removed one screw on back plate, pushed up on the holding tabs at the top of the back plate & removed the back plate. Removed 3 screws holding the motor bracket in place along with the 3 wires. Installed new motor & used the wire extensions provided due to the electrical connections on the new motor being on the opposite side. Had to bend one wire tab down to clear the motor bracket. Turned refridgerator back on to ensure correct rotation on the fan. Reinstalled back plate & ice maker & shelf. Waited 30 minutes before putting food items back in freezer compartment.

Shut off power to the refrige. Removed old icemaker, using large hammer. Installed new unit.

GET 2 "door closing cams"
Yep. same as some others here. found some black plastic pieces on the floor, when door wasn't closing right. I took the door off by taking off the top bracket. very easy. bottom bracket has the broken cam riveted to it. need hacksaw to get this off then punch it through with hammer and a screwdriver. this is the only part that took a little while. replace the closing cam and find a small nut & bolt or screw to replace the rivet you just sawed in half.
Replace the closing cam that is on the bottom the the door as well. even if yours isn't broken. replace it anyway. put door back on and done. not a diffucult project if you know about the rivet and needing 2 closing cams beforehand. good luck

Simple. UNPLUG THE FRIDGE. Remove set screw holding valve to frame, switch hoses one at a time into new valve, switch wires one set at a time from old to new, re-attach the new valve, turn on water , plug in fridge, check for leaks. 2-minute job.

NOISEY MOTOR, BEARINGS OUT, DYING

REMOVE BACK COVER, EXPOSING FAN MOTOR. TURN OFF POWER, REMOVE NUT ON FAN BLADES. REMOVE FAN CAREFULLY, DO NOT BEND. UNHOOK WIRING HARNESS. REMOVE THREE SCREWS THAT HOLD THE MOTOR ON THE BACK FRAME. REMOVE OLD MOTOR, INSTALL NEW. CAREFULLY, REINSTALL FAN BLADES, HOOK UP WIRING, AND YOUR READY FOR TRYOUT. ALSO DO SOME CLEANING WHILE YOUR THERE. CLEAN OLD FAN BLADES WITH HOT SOAPY WATER OR CONTACT CLEANER. EVERYTHING RUNS BETTER CLEAN!

Refrigerator & freezer became warm.

Unplugged the refrigerator. I took all the food items out of the freezer, took out the ice bin and shelves. Then I unscrewed the back panel and removed it. The freezer coils were frozen over with ice. Then I used a large fan to thaw the ice and cleaned up the water with towels.
I unscrewed the old defrost heater at the bottom of the coil section, removed it and screwed the new defrost heater part in. I ended up using some dikes to cut the wiring midway up . ( I was going to use the new plastic plug that came with the new part, but it wasn't correct ). I spliced the wires together ( the color scheme was the same - pink to pink, blue to blue, etc), capped them , taped them with electrical tape, and I covered them with a corner from a sandwich bag and taped them a bit more to keep moisture out. Then I tucked the wiring up away from the coil section. I also spliced this little cylindrical part into the existing wiring harness and clipped it onto the copper tubing. ( I suspect this is the defrost timer, but I'm not sure ). After I removed the the old cylindrical little part, I noticed the cap was popped out of it. (it looked like it was damaged a bit ). Once I got all wiring tucked away and back in place, I put the back panel back on, plugged it back in. Voila'. Easy as pie. It's been running fine ( about a week now) ever since. I replaced the thermostat sensor first since that was the cheapest part, but it wasn't the problem. So I moved on to the defrost heater and that ended up being the bad part. I repaired my refrigerator for less than $100.00. Thanks PartSelect. You rock!

Very low flow from water dispenser, hollow ice cubes, broken ice dispenser helix

Unplugged refrigerator. Removed cardboard cover, vacuumed lint from coils and equipment area. Removed dual valves and labeled the four electrical leads with masking tape. Cut off the end of water lines to dispenser and ice maker to remove threaded connections (New are simply push on). The water leads are of different diameters, so there is no confusion.
Decided to replace water line at the same time so bought a plastic replacement for less than $10, removed old copper line and replaced it with new. (Original plumber used a custom made line with a smaller diameter and this may have contributed to the low flow).
Connected all lines and wires (had to use adapter supplied with valve for two of the leads which are of different connector widths than original) and secured valve and back panel. Had to bedn the valve mounting plate somewhat to allow it to fit (this is also a little different from the original).
After installation, it takes a little time to refill the lines until proper flow is established both at the dispenser and the icemaker.
Replacing the Helix took completely disassembling the ice drawer, Take your tiime in doing this as there are many parts that fit in only one precise way. This helix replacement took about 20 minutes total.

Ice machine wasnt making ice

First I turned the refrigerator and water line off. Then moved to the freezer section, followed the directions, removed the two screws. Directions state to not remove them but I had to in this case. Unplugged the ice maker and removed it from the freezer. I installed the two mounting screws then tried to plug the electrical connection back in but had to use the adaptor cord furnished in the kit. The cord was a little long but I tucked it in and mounted the ice maker. Turned it on then turned the refrigerator and water back on and in a few hours had ice! Very easy to do!

CAMS ON FREEZER DOOR BROKE

REMOVED TOP HINGE AND ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR (FREEZER DOOR HAS ICE AND WATER DISPENSERS) THEN HAD TO TURN OFF WATER SUPPLY TO UNIT AND DISCONNECT THE HOSE TO THE DOOR AND REMOVE THE SPRING PROTECTOR FROM THE HOSE -- THIS REQUIRED REMOVAL OF THE COMPRESSION FITTINGS IN THE WATER LINE SO SPRING WOULD COME OFF OF THE TUBE.
THEN REMOVED BOTTOM HINGE FROM THE DOOR AND USED SAW TO REMOVE THE RIVET THAT HAD HELD THE CAM TO THE HINGE, USED A NUT AND BOLT TO ATTACH NEW CAM. PUT OTHER CAM (USED TWO) IN THE HINGE AND REPLACED LOWER HINGE UNIT ON THE DOOR. THEN REATTACHED BOTH HINGES TO THE REFRIGERATOR AND LINED UP THE DOOR PUT THE SPRING PROTECTOR AND COMPRESSION FITTINGS BACK ON PLASTIC TUBING AND RECONNECTED THE WATER SUPPLY AND ELECTRIC FITTING, TURNED ON WATER TO UNIT AND PRAYED THERE WERE NO LEAKS. PRAYER WAS ANSWERED, THE WATER DISPENSER WORKED PROPERLY AND THE ICE MAKER FILLED WITH WATER SO I THEN REPLACED THE HINGE COVER ON TOP OF THE UNIT AND THE GRILL AT THE BOTTOM AND HAD A PEPSI. A FEW YEARS AGO I HAD REPLACED THE CAMS ON THE OTHER DOOR WHICH HAD NO WATER/ELECTIC CONNECTIONS AND WAS A MUCH SIMPLER JOB.

IT TOOK ME ABOUT 15 MINUTES TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR, 1ST I EMPTIED THE ICE MAKER, THEN I REMOVED 4 SCREWS FROM THE REAR OF THE ICE MAKER TRAY AND TOOK THE PLASTIC PIECE OFF OF THE AUGER. I REVERSED THE STEPS AND PUT IT BACK TOGETHER.
