Direct Drive Water Pump

This direct drive water pump, also known as washing machine drain pump or washer drain pump, is manufactured for washing machines that do not have belts. This is a genuine Whirlpool part with two ports for water to pass through, a large one and a smaller one, that will need replacing if the washer has a defective pump. Tools needed are slip joint pliers, a flat blade screw driver, and a putty knife. Sandpaper might also be needed to remove rust from internal parts to install the new pump. The washer will have to be disconnected from power and tilted on its back.

Foot, Front - Single

The front facing foot is sold individually. It is used on your washing machine and can also be known as an adjustable leveling leg. This specific front facing leveling leg has a rubber foot. It is important that when installing this part you are very careful, if not installed correctly your washer will be off balance which will then cause it to vibrate and/or shake during the cycle. The function of the adjustable foot is to keep your washing machine supported and to make sure that it is level at all times. The tools you will need for this repair include a pair of channel lock pliers, and a 9/16 wrench.

The hardest part of this job was pulling the machine away from the wall so the hoses could be disconnected and the machine flipped onto it's back. Putting the machine on it's back does two things. If you load a washing machine unevenly, it will spin out of balance. But our washer seemed to make noise during the spin cycle regardless of how the load was distributed. I suspected that the suspension or balancing springs were getting tired, and ordered a replacement set.

I removed the two spring clips that hold the pump and two wire spring clips that hold the hoses. Then I had to pry the pump off the shaft (it was frozen with rust). Then I cleaned the shaft with sandpaper and installed the new pump (which, by the way, came the next day, thank you very much) which made my wife very happy, and I thank you for that , too. read more
