Refrigerator Door would not close on its own

Set out an area large enough to lay the door down once I took it off the refrigerator. Took off the top screws and hinge. Had my 12 year old so help me with the door and hand me all the tools so I could quickly change out the parts and not leave the Refrigerator open for too long. I think from the moment we took the door off to the moment it was back on was probably about 5-6 minutes tops. That is how easy this was. All the parts fit and thank you to PartSelect and it great website that advised me of the second part that went with the first if not I would never have known. Thanks again!!

Ice maker quit working and had a bussing sound

  • Customer: Pamela from Chandler, AZ
  • Difficulty: A Bit Difficult
  • Time to Complete: 30 - 60 mins
  • Tools Required: Socket set

Three screws takes the old one off, 2 on top and 1 on bottom. Only problem I couldn't get the wiring harness off. I had my son look at it and he ended up cutting his hand and getting stitches(bracket that holds wiring harness is sharp), but he did get it off. I went online at parts select to ask how to get wiring harness off, but they wanted $30 to tell me. When I got the new one I could see that there is a bump on wiring harness connection that goes into a hole on ice maker, push that down and it comes off easily. Also after I installed the new one it didn't work the first day, I opened it up and looked for a button to push but didn't find any. I also pulled the lever up and turned it off and then back on, it starting working after that I'm not sure what worked but it is working now. Doesn't come with any instructions.

Replaced cracked door shelfs. removed old ones and replaced. The beautiful thing about this repair was that I could not get this part from our local parts supplier unless we did $500.00 worth of business with them per year, and we don't, so I looked up Partselect and not only were you cheaper, I had my parts in less time than I would have with supplier. Thanks!

Replaced ice maker. Ice maker was cheaper if you used parts from old ice maker! Very easy to install! Ice bin auger was a bit more involved, but with the attached video underneath the explanation of the part, it was soooo easy to replace! Now we have ice again! Thank you so much!

The refrigerator would not defrost and would freeze up and no longer cool.

  • Customer: Mike from Frankfort, IL
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Time to Complete: 15 - 30 mins
  • Tools Required: Nutdriver

Turn off power to the frig. Remove the shelves and back brackets from the freezer, then with a 1/4" nut driver remove the nuts holding the rear metal panel in place. Once removed the defrost thermostat is right in front of you. You will have to clip the wires from the old t-stat because they are in a harness. Once clipped, strip the wires back, wire in the new t-stat, add wire nuts and put it all back together. Very easy job to do, works great. Thanks Parts Select, Mike.

Refrigerator door would not close properly

  • Customer: Charles from Riverside, CA
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Time to Complete: 15 - 30 mins
  • Tools Required: Nutdriver, Socket set

I removed the upper hinge cover and then the the hinge itself. Then lifted the door off the lower hinge peg. I placed a blanket on my pool table and positioned the door on it. The bottom screws were a little difficult to get the nutdriver seated so I used a quarter inch drive with socket to remove the screws. The replacement Closing Cam was quickly inserted and reassembled the hinge and lubricated with vaseline. Next I removed the Door Cam that was still on the peg on the refrigerator (it was completely worn flat). Quick work for this too. I tried to set the door back on the pivot hinge but eventually I needed another person to guide the door onto the peg. Reassembled the top hinge and voila, the door works just like new.

Drilled holes where pins had sheared off. Replaced pins with 4-40 x 1" screws and nuts and fastened switches and spacers on bracket. Used Loctite threadlocker to prevent nuts from loosening and installed bracket. So far, both ice and water dispensers are working fine.

Water overflowed icemaker

  • Customer: Stanley from Sharpsburg, GA
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Time to Complete: 30 - 60 mins
  • Tools Required: Nutdriver, Pliers, Screw drivers, Wrench set

My first try was to replace the water inlet valve. New valve was a good bit different than the original but not too hard to figure out. The main water inlet is on the inside rather than the outside. Flex hose and a stick in connector were included and I was able to work through that. But, when I turned it on the water still over flowed. The only thing left was the Ice maker. I ordered a new one. It came broken into several pieces. I ordered another, it arrived overnight with expediated shipping. install took maybe 15 minutes. problem solved. The company refunded me the full charge for the damaged ice maker and most of the charge for expediated shipping on the replacement. I'm happy and my wifes very happy.

Ice Maker was overflowing into ice bin when filling

  • Customer: Denise from Manchester, NH
  • Difficulty: Really Easy

  • Tools Required: Nutdriver

After first replacing the water valve, the issue with our ice maker remained so we ordered the ice maker unit after watching the video at partselect.com. It couldn't have been easier. I had the whole unit replaced in less than 10 mins. It took about an hour for it to cycle and fill, so my husband thought it wasn't working, but I wanted to let it be and see what happened...and an hour later I heard it fill. It's been about 2 weeks and it's working perfectly. Partselect is officially our 'go-to' site from now on!!

Refrigerator was freezing everything

  • Customer: Robert from Norwich, CT
  • Difficulty: A Bit Difficult
  • Time to Complete: 30 - 60 mins
  • Tools Required: Screw drivers, Socket set

First of all the part was not located in the section of the refrigerator that was shown in the video. I wasted a lot of time taking that section apart only to find that the part wasn't there. After some investigation I finally located the defective part. It was behind a piece of sheet metal that had to be bent out of the way to unscrew the part. If I hadn't bent it out of the way, it would have been a major disassembly to remove the sheet metal. Once removed, the installation of the new part was fairly simple. The only confusing thing about the installation was determinig which of the prongs on the part that the internal wire to the new part was to be attached. There were 3 options given and the instructions were not very clear as to which one I should use. Apparently I guessed correctly because the refrigerator seems to be functioning perfectly since the repair.
