AG5419 Amana Dryer - Instructions

I took the dryer apart and used the video on the website that helped a lot on how to install the belt and then we put it back together and dryer works great.

The hardest part is figuring out how to get the unit open. You have to take out the brackets that appear to hold on the timer section and you have to remove the screws under the lint filter. Once you have the top off then you remove the screws that hold the front panel on from the inside. I decided not to remove the drum it seemed like a lot of hassle, instead I went down and got a right angle screwdriver, the terminal valves are in the front of the unit and you only have to remove 2 screws to remove the retainer which holds them both in place. The drum is in the way so you can't use a regular screwdriver and the right angle is a bit slow going but I think it is actually faster than removing and replacing the drum for a novice like myself. Replacing the coils took about 2 minutes and then reassembly another half hour. But the Dryer works great again and for $70 it was well worth it.

I removed the two screws on the bottom of the lower front panel and turned the dryer on and noticed that the heating element that ignites the gas was working fine. Unplugged the electrical cord and removed three bolts from black plastic exit vent and took it out to give more room to access everything, then removed the two wires and screws on the limit thermostat. Did the reverse to place the new one. Carefully removed the wire connectors to the two coils. Removed the two screws that hold the bracket that holds the two coils in place. These were tough to get off. Slid the coils off the spindles remembering which one has the two wire connection and which one has the three wire connection and the way they went on. Checked the two solenoids the 2 terminal coil measured about 550 ohms, the 3 terminal coil should read about 700 ohms across outer terminals, and about 1.5K ohms center to outer terminals. Replaced the old with the new. Placed the bracket onto the new coils and made sure the little bumps on the top are in the holes in the bracket. Tightened the screws to hold the coil bracket. Reattached the wire connectors to the coils making sure they go ALL the way back on. Vaccumed everything I could to get lint, dust, etc. out and replaced the black vent plastic. For testing I left the bottom panel open. reconnect the plug tested the dryer and it work just like when I first bought the appliance. bought $100.00 worth of parts figured a service call would cost me that much if not more, I didn't know much about gas dryers, but thanks to PartSelect I easily fixed it myself.

Replaced the flame sensor since it was believed to be the problem contributing to the lack of flame in this gas dryer. However, this part did not correct the problem.

removed frt cover & drum, replaced solenoids, cleaned the unit interior

Pulled off front of dryer because it made loud noise, lifted clothing drum removed cover for fan and order from model number on fan and replaced. 30 min with help from my son.

My suggestion is to read all of the items that may result in no heat, or insufficient heat, you will find your problem in one of the reply's and the right part to replace. The repair was made much easier, as I installed a Maintenance kit at the same time. Drum rollers, drive belts and tensioner. With the drum out, the coil retaining clip was a LOT easier to re-instal. If the drum isn't out, you can lift the drum up a little and squeeze a stubby screw driver in to loosen the retaining screws. You have to use the proper size screwdriver so you don't strip the screws, and maybe a pair of gas pliers around the handle of the screwdriver to give it a little torque to help loosen the screws, while keeping downward pressure on the screwdriver.

I ordered the belt, which arrived really fast! Took dryer apart, removed old belt, replaced with new belt. The hardest part was remembering how to put the dryer back together! I think next time I will video the taking apart process so I can see how it goes back! This was the 2nd belt in about 18 years, the dryer works fine, and it sure is cheaper than a whole new dryer! Thanks for saving me money again! Really helps in these hard economic times!

I just knew it had to be the heat sensor unable to activate the actual ignition. I following the directions and video for the installation of the heat sensor #PS344761. It went very smoothly. Upon completion of the installation, the click, then the flame roared to life and I felt like a real do-it-selfer!! This was short lived. The wetness of the clothes had no effect. Something I did not do and I certainly know better was to check and see what was taking place before I replaced the "damaged" sensor. No, I was just so sure there was no need of that. You say, put the old back in and watch what happens....I recycled the old one immediately. Sigh! We have had two weeks of rain and I'm really tired of damp clothes everywhere. I will read other alternatives and report back. DClark, TX

unplugged dryer and removed front panel. removed the screw that holds flame sensor and unplugged electrical wires. then replaced with new. Did not solve problem so I ordered the replacement coil kit and installed them using phillips screw driver and this solved problem. Dryer is working fine now. I found this site very helpful and would recommend it to a friend.

First I replace the Radiant Flame Sensor, but the problem remain. Then replace the two coils and the igniter. Dryer works like it should. If I were to do it over, I would have replaced all 4 components to start with. Thanks for good advice and great service.

Found symptoms on Part Select website and confirmed that the problem was the coils. It was extremely easy to find and the site saved me hundreds of dollars on a repairman, labor costs and marked up parts. It literally took about 5 minutes to repair. Awesome site!!Thank You

Since there were no troubleshooting steps, I had to start replacing the items according to the list that showed the parts that have fixed the problem for others. I ordered one at a time until I got the part that fixed the problem. I went through 4 parts before I replaced the gas solenoids which is what fixed the problem. By the time I was done, I could disassemble that dry in about 5 minutes or less.

Replace with new latch.

I had no idea how to take my dryer apart so it took me a little while to figure out. I hope by me writing this out my experience might help someone else fix their dryer instead of having to buy a new one. 1)I removed the lint screen assy by removing the 2 screws that hold it to the dryer top. 2) I popped up the front of the top of the dryer which is held to the dryer body by 2 spring type clips. Removed by prying up the top using a big screw driver to release it from the clips.3) Reaching through the top of the dryer and feeling down along the front there is one fastner on each side that holds the dryer front to the dryer body. I removed using a nut driver. 4) The dryer front then can be removed by lifting it up to release it from 2 hooks on the bottom that it hangs on. 5) The coils were located at the lower left side of the dryer as part of the gas heat assy. There is a bracket that holds the 2 coils in place using 2 screws. I removed these 2 screws. Then the old coils can be lifted off the valve post. Then unplug the electrical connector from the old coil and plug in the new coils. 6) Reverse the process to reassemble. After this my problem was fixed and my dryer is working great.
