Ice door tab broke off

  • Customer: Jamieson from Spring TX

The parts just arrived -- wow, I think I've found my favorite parts supplier!!!

Ironically, I had jury rigged a new tab on the ice door by inserting a screw into where the tab snapped off, but it didn't work! As I was taking it apart this time, I realized that the solenoid spring had become unclipped. However, it's nice to have it all back together again and working with new parts!

Thank you -- great packaging, the parts look fantastic, and a great sheet of instructions! I've already repaired my refrigerator (only took about ten minutes) and it's up and running!

Thank you!!

First we ordered a new solenoid...the little piece that opens and closes whenever you push the button to dispense ice. That definitely needed to be replaced, and it was easy to do. However, that didn't fix the problem, so we looked and looked at the assembly and decided that a spring was missing. We ordered the spring, and when it arrived, we found that it matched exactly one that was already on the assembly. :-) Not the problem. Thirty minutes later we figured it out,. The diagrams at Part Select were not helpful with this. It was a matter of figuring out how the magnetic weight fit into the assembly. That's all it was! Now we have an extra spring for the future.

The repair did not work. The new door strike did not embrace the solenoid.

I had the old spring, and it fit exactly. I also ordered a roll pin, but have no clue as what to do with it. Excellent directions came with the door strike, but nothing with the roll pin.

Was hoping the roll pin would connect the door strike to the solenoid, but did not see how that would work.

I went to your site thinking the problem was lack of electronic/elec signal. Wrong! I then was guided to your "ice door repair kit". I only then realized(after viewing the repair video) that ice door SOLENOID failure was far more likely than elec circuitry failure.Since it was inexpensive I ordered the kit......gambling that it would fix it; and it did! On my first try I installed the close-door spring wrong but then reviewed the video and instantly saw my error and corrected it. I also got an elec nibble (shock) once because I hadn't disconnected as the video said to do. Good parts, good information, timely response! "Piece of Cake"! Cheers John Taylor

It was not that hard. I am not totally inept, but also not a mechanice or techie. I have discovered that a lot of repair jobs have a video that shows you how to do things, and seeing it done makes a task doable for me.

Clearing an ice jam resulted in a broken ice chute door

  • Customer: Bruce from Clarkridge AR
  • Difficulty: Easy
  • Time to Complete: 15 - 30 mins
  • Tools Required: Pliers

This is an easy repair and doesn't take hardly any time, once you can identify the electrical bridals to disconnect and the position of the new ice chute door interface point with the solenoid.

The supplied directions are complete but were quite a bit blurry. The more general dissasembly which is effectively 5 screws and two electrical bridals to remove/disconnect is straight forward. Pay particular attention to the mounting point of the ice door interface with the solenoid. I did it twice because I didn't align the door properly the first time:-)

Much too easy a job than to "call the guy."
