Door Switch - 3 Wire

A door switch is a simple on/off switch mechanism that prohibits the dryer from operating when the door is open. This part may need to be replaced if you find that the dryer is not starting, will not shut off or the door will not close properly. All you will need is a putty knife and a Phillips screwdriver. Pry open the top of the dryer, remove the two screws underneath the lint collector without removing the entire thing, unplug the switch, remove the screws that hold the switch place, take out the old switch and install the new one by screwing it back into place.

'M' Series New Style Coil Kit

This is an M series new style coil kit, used in gas dryers. When the igniter reaches a high enough temperature, these coils work together to let the gas enter the dryer. The coils open the gas valve; if the valve does not open the heating element will not ignite. Both coils must be operational for the valve to open. This is a safety mechanism to ensure that there are no unsafe buildups of gas inside your appliance. This kit comes with a three-terminal boost/hold coil, and a two-terminal main coil. Each part is approximately 1 1/4 inches in diameter. If the igniter glows but shuts off without igniting gas, it means one of both of your valves is faulty. We recommend you replace these as a set. Before you begin this repair unplug your appliance and shut off the gas supply.

Idler Pulley

The idler pulley with tri-ring and gasket, also known as a dryer belt tension pulley wheel, is used in dryers. This part maintains the right amount of tension for the belt to rotate the drum. This effectively spins the drum. If your dryer is experiencing any of the following symptoms, it is best to replace this part: not rotating, does not start, making squealing noises when it is in use, or it does not tumble properly. For this repair project, the tools needed are a Phillips screwdriver, 1/4 inch nut driver, putty knife, small flat blade screw driver, and needle nose pliers. Refer to the manual provided by the manufacturer for installation instructions.

Igniter Kit

If your dryer will not heat, takes too long to dry, or does not provide enough heat, you might want to replace your igniter kit. This silicone carbide igniter with ceramic holder kit includes the 3-inch flat igniter, bracket, 4-inch wire leads, and the plug. The kit can replace both round and flat igniters and is used for many gas clothes dryers. Be sure to disconnect the power source from your dryer before you do this repair. The igniter is located within the burner assembly, so you will require tools to complete the repair. You will need a putty knife, a small flat blade screwdriver, a 5/16 nut driver and a 5/16 socket with a ratchet.

First I unplugged the dryer, then removed the back panel, this exposed most all of the wiring and I could see the heater coils.

Cleaning the lint out of the whole machine took quite a bit of time--it was everywhere. Underneath the lint trap was a collection that ultimately ruined the thermal fuse where it restricted the air flow considerably.

Ascertaining the problem was the most time consuming part.

The actual repair was quite simple and didn't take but 15-20 m... read more
