Wasn't making ice.

I ordered both icemaker motor assembly and the emitter and receiver (sensors)as I was uncertain as to which was the culprit. We couldn't unplug the frige as it is heavy, so we shut the circuit breaker until we were done with the repair. The icemaker motor was a bit clumsy to remove. My refrigerator was entirely different than the one on the video I viewed, as I have a side by side and the video was of an entirely different model. The video's icemaker was not as clumsy to work with. My husband was a little apprehensive so I rode shot gun and assisted and he did great. He did change the motor first and probably should have waited to see if it worked. He didn't wait, and went ahead and changed the sensors....that was a breeze. We waited about 2 hours and lo and behold once the freezer went down to 14 degrees, the icemaker began it's magic and we had a full supply of ice within 24 hours. So, I saved quite a bit of cash by purchasing the parts I needed at Parts Select and eliminated the repairman's expensive fee. Very happy with end results.

There are two tabs that hold the icemaker to the rails it sits on. I use a small screwdriver and pushed the tabs up to release the tray and slid the Ice maker out. the cover over the control motor just pops right off. Then I removed three screws from the control motor pulled it off and put the new on, replaced the screws and put the cover back on and slid the icemaker back into the rails. I shut the freezer door and within the five minutes it took me to put my tools back in the garage, it was dumping ice. Very easy to fix. You do not need to remove the screws that hold the icemaker to the tray.

Turned off the icemaker and took out the hex screw at the back of the unit that held the cable guard. The ice maker was easy to slide out after releasing guide locks on each side of the unit. Pulled the unit forward and released the electrical connection. With the unit on the cabinet, I removed the motor housing cover. Took out the 3 scews holding it in place and the old motor was out. Just reverse the steps putting the new one in. In an hour or two we heard ice dumping into the holder.

The ice maker stopped making ice. Cold water was still available at the freezer door dispenser which seemed to isolate the problem to the ice maker control board/motor. My ice making unit was not identical to the one in the video, but close. After disconnecting the power, I was able to replace the control board/motor without having to remove the entire ice making unit. Total time for repair was under 15 minutes.

Undid the bolts to the ice maker, unplugged it and took it out of the freezer. Removed the cover, unplugged the motor and unscrewed the motor from the casing. To install new motor screw it into the casing, plug it in and replace the cover.

PS328747 Icemaker and Water Dispenser Dual Inlet Valve was purchased from Parts Select. My wife, Sandy, watched install video provided by Parts Select on their website. Sandy used plywood to protect our hard wood floor. She pulled out the refrigerator (She did need my help to do this task). Unplugged the refrigerator. I turned off water line in the basement. Sandy followed the video to the tee. Fifteen minutes later the part was installed. The ice maker tray was quickly filled with water. Ice cubes quickly were made. My wife is uniquely talented. Last winter, she remodeled two bathrooms in our Naples home replacing all the fixtures, vanities, flooring, etc. My wife can do almost any task. Many years ago, I had a leaking radiator and a broken arm at the same time. What did she do--she removed the radiator from the car, took it the repair, and reinstalled the repaired radiator. Sandy plays tennis, golf, brige, hikes, sings in the church choir, works at theater as a red coat, and at 62 years of age, she tackled another item on her bucket list in January 2012. Sandy's first recital is Saturday--she is quiet an accomplished pianist already. I could relate many other stories about her but the most important one is that this beautiful woman has been wife for 43 years and the mother of our two beautiful daughters, Jessica and Holly.

My ice maker stopped producing ice after our refridgerator was accidently turned off for 4 days. Note: the on off switch in the front does turn the unit off even though the light stays on, why we need easy access to turn off the fridge is beyond me. Regardless, I spent way more time researching the problem then doing the repair. There is 2 things that could be wrong: 1 was the infra red light located on either side of the freezer, called the transmitter/reciever. 2 was the side of the ice maker control panel. Either one or if I had to replace both it would of been less then the cost of a repair man to come to my home. Prices here a good. I started with learning the diagnostic of the ice make which is learned by watching the red light flash. That informed me that it was working ok. Reference: if you hold back the hinged plate and pretend the door is shut the light should flash, flash, pause. This means its working. I went with the other route of the control module on the ice maker. This part came fast like 2 days. I watched the video on the parts web page and it was simple to do. You do have to wait until the temp goes down below 15 degrees in order for the ice maker to kick in. I won't buy another kenmore for I have had plenty of trouble with this one and its bearly 6 years old. I'm Definetly a fan of this website. Good luck DIY ers!
