10650593003 Kenmore Refrigerator - Instructions

I've replaced the door cams in the past, but they didn't last very long. I finally realized on my own that both parts need to be replaced at the same time. One piece is on the case-side of the bottom hinge and the mate is on the door-side of the bottom hinge. They both have a ramp shape, with door ramp riding up the hinge ramp as you open the door. The ramp shape makes the door want to slide back down the ramp to close automatically. These are plastic parts that wear out over time. If you don't replace both at the same time, the ramp shapes don't match and they wear out quickly. They are inexpensive parts, so always replace both at the same time. I added a thin layer of petroleum jelly to help them glide better. Hopefully this fix will last a long time. It's extremely easy. First take off the top hinge of the door. Then lift the whole door off the bottom hinge. You can set it on a chair with the bottom hinge hanging over the edge of the chair. Replace the two parts, one on the door bottom hinge and one on the refrigerator case bottom hinge. Easy as pie. The only tool needed is a nut driver. You need a helper to help lift and balance the door while you work on it.

Wash, dry, insert.

No prior experience in appliance repair. The majority of time was used in researching the problem and how to fix it. The Parts-Select website and the comments of prior customers made it easy to diagnose and repair. Unplugged the unit, popped of the ice maker cover to get it out of the way, unscrewed the plate covers for the emitter and receiver, changed them out, replaced the covers, replaced ice maker cover, plugged in. Moved on to the next problem.

The Crisper Pan ordered through PartSelect was a perfect replacement. The item ordered arrived quicker than expected. I'm very pleased with your service.

1. Turn off ice maker and cut power to refrigerator. 2. Remove food from top two freezer shelves and remove top shelf. 3. Using nut driver, remove screw that secures plastic shield to the bottom of ice maker. Remove shield and place it on the empty freezer shelf. 4. Remove ice maker unit by sliding it free of the two rails that hold the bottom of the unit in place ... when it is free of the rails, pivot the left-hand end of the unit downward to allow access to the electrical connection. 5. To pull the electrical connector apart, use a small flat-end screwdriver to pry (gently) just above the little protrusion that keeps the two halves secure during operation. 6. Once the electrical connector has been pulled apart, the unit can be placed on a counter top. Pull the square plastic shield off the left-hand side of the unit (it just pulls off, no screws hold it in place) and set it aside on the counter. 7. Remove the 3 screws that hold the motor assembly in place with a phillip's screw driver. Pull off the motor assembly and push on the new motor assembly ... you might have to "wiggle" the white plastic "fingers" over the ice bin to get the axle aligned properly with the motor assembly ... this is very easy to do. 8. Screw new motor assembly in place. 9. Holding the ice maker at an angle in the freezer, reconnect the electrical connectors, then hold the ice maker level in front of the side rails and push it back in place. Replace the small shield and secure it with the screw and nut driver. Replace freezer shelf and food, restore power to the refrigerator, turn on ice maker switch. Wait a few moments and hear the blessed sound of water filling the ice maker tray. Put away tools, check time (a 10-minute job!), do victory dance ... and then see the shield that covers the motor assembly still sitting on the counter! Repeat process, except this time it is not necessary to take apart the electrical connection ... but, of course, the ice maker now has water in it so when you tip it to push the shield back on ... Suffice it to say, that even though I had to do the job twice, I was thrilled with my $59.00 part ... we live in the boonies so a service call by a repairperson would have cost me more than $200.00 ... plus the part and labor. I did the repair, but apparently there's an Ice Door Kit with Bracket ( Part #8201756 - PartSelect Number PS990120 ) that has a metal bracket that will actually fix the problem with the broken plastic that holds the pin in.

Found my unit had stopped making ice. I did 20 min. of search on the internet and found this site. I was going to just buy the whole ice maker unit, but after reading a bit more found that the majority was just the motor assembly. I ordered it, 2 days later it was at my front door. I pulled the ice maker unit out, took off the motor assembly, and low and behold a small whit ppiece of plastic fell out. I replaced the motor assembly re installed the ice maker and in one hour I had ice again. As far as ease to do this job from 1 being hard and 10 being super easy, I would rate this a 10+. If you have this kind of problem, I would not waste your money on a repair man, 150.00 service call, Hell no. 65 bucks and your done. Before your wife can make you a pot of coffee this can be out and back in. I don't want to take money away from the appliance repair men but some repairs can be a DIY project. Nut driver and phillips screw driver is all you need.Hope this helps ya.

I poped the outer cover off... Removed 3 screws and gently pulled the old timer out.... Also pulled out the ice maker arm.... Aligned the shaft of the tral to match the new motor assembly and gently slid it in... tightened the 3 screws and aligned the wire hoop back in the hole and the job was done... i pulled out the top freezer basket for easy access... Took less than 20 minutes total..The part was correct as usual.. Thank fellas

The retaining pins, which are part of the control bracket, that hold the micro switch that powers on the ice dispensor had broken, allowing the micro switch to fall away from actuator paddle. I replace the entire control bracket which holds the 2 micro switches, one for ice dispensing and one for water.

Ordered new glass shelf installed it.

I removed the outside ice door panel with two flat head screw drivers inserted in the slots at the bottom of the panel. You simply pry out until the bottom releases and then you push it up gently to release the top. I then removed the hex head screws that held the outside wire panel and the switches, at this time you need to remove the old plunger that is connected to the top of the ice door assembly. I then disconnected the old heat strip and removed the hex screw that held the ice chute at the bottom. Then I removed the pin and spring that held the ice door assembly at the top. Replaced the parts with new ones provided in the kit. The ice door is no longer freezing up, nor is the ice bucket in the freezer. The freezer is now back to the right temperature, without having to be set on high

Took the part out of the package and installed it. The service I received was excelent. Got the part two days after ordering it

This was the easiest repair I have ever done. Don't waste your money calling a repairmain for this one. Unplug from electrical outlet, and turn off water supply. I first removed the ice bucket to give myself the room needed to remove ice maker. Then I loosened to two top nuts holding the icemaker and removed the bottom one. Pulled the icemaker away from the freezer wall and disconected the power supply. Removed unit from freezer and removed the three screws holding control motor assembly in place, gently removed icemaker control assembly. Secured with the three screws, placed unit back in freezer making sure water inlet was in place and reconected power supply. Slid unit onto the top two nuts and tightened and replaced bottom screw. Turned on water supply and reconected to electrical supply. Easier then pie.
