PartSelect recently helped robert of pine valley, CA with this KitchenAid range/stove/oven/hood repair:

metal Inlay with decals & broken heat switch post (for knob)

I first cut the electrical breaker to the stove. Then I removed the four control knobs. Using a adjustable wrench I loosened and removed nuts (underneath the knobs) and washers. Before going any further (after buying a new metal decal plate that perfectly matched the old one) I needed to remove the old metal decal plate from the top of stove using a sturdy scraper. The old glue holding the old plate was tuff stuff. I waited to install the new one until the last step. The stove top then lifts up and has a built in stand, to prop open while working. There is another internal metal box to access control switches. The new switch can be accessed by removing one screw from metal box lid, then I unplugged the bad switch (4-5 spade type connectors) and replaced it with a newer version switch that looked the same only white instead of black. I Re-installed the internal metal lid and screw. But before putting nuts back on to secure switches and box , I needed to install the new metal decal for the top of the stove using glue engineered for metal surfaces (I used Gorilla Glue). Next I needed to line up all the switch posts through the top of the stove and install and tighten the nuts. This was a little tedious and awkward. I then returned the control knobs to finish. I kept my old knobs because the older ones are hard to come by. They seem to look nicer too. However , I did need to dig out a piece of the old broken metal post on one knob with an ice pick...It was worth it to save the knob and the originality of my Kitchen Aid stove.
