This was really simple to trouble shoot. I unplugged the unit. I removed the freezer shelves and lower drawer compartment and the light bulb and light bulb shield. Removed 3 upper screws and 2 small socket head screws.Removed the back panel and discovered the coils were completly iced over One the ice melted I removed the two screws holding the defrost heater shield. Pulled the defrost heater, shield, harness and thermostat. I could tell with a visual check the heater was bad. It was very black. I did a continuity check anyway with my meter to confirm it. I installed the new one and the parts I had removed and plugged in the unit. It is working fine. The original symptons were ice build up on the freezer side and a not so cold refridgerator compartment. Total time for repair minus the defrosting time was less than 30 minutes.
