The pipe that the spray arm goes on is about 1and 1/2 inches long. When you push hard on the new part it forces the pipe up where the threads won't catch. I took the dinner knife and pushed on the side of the pipe to keep it from going up. Then had my wife hold that and was able to screw the arm on. The threads are plastic and the new part and the old part are a tight fit. Once the parts engage you have the problem licked. If the pipe was tight it would take less than 5 minutes.
