Fault isolated between switch and burner by swaping out 2nd cooktop module. Removed the module assuming the whole thing would be replaced however online parts diagram show that a single burner could be replaced. Removed 6 screws securing backshell. Verified fault by physical inspection (nichrome heating element separated from from one lead, too hot a section to repair by soldering). Ordered part by matching wattage and burner size but not a part number (or even a verifiable model number). Removed burner element from two spring clips by sliding element left and right. Removed and saved two phillips head screws from the back of the old element and re-installed on new element using numbers next to holes on the underside to position them correctly. Dusty, wondered if the dust was asbestos. Changed the two connectors from the old to the new element one at a time to avoid a mistake. Aligned the heads of the two phillips head screws to keyhole of the spring clips. Positioned the glass top onto the backshell. Match the outline of the burners on the glass to ensure proper orientation. If you do it wrong, the assembled unit will not fully set into the cooktop. After positioning the glass, flip over the unit to re-insert the six screws which secure the backshell. Re-insert the burner assembly into the cooktop by aligning electrical contacts which are similar to a conventional wall outlet.
