Door open latch broken and would not engage the opening mechanism

Removed inside door panel hardware .
Removed old latch after disassembly of mounting structure.
Problem occurs with new latch which is redesigned to fit more than one model.
Insert tabs have to be slide behind the mounting mechanism hold downs. Caution must be taken to prevent damaging the tabs.
Trial and error is required for this step.
Reassemble the inside door panel.
