I was receiving message that charcoal filter needed replacing
I finally found the two screws to remove the fan opening. Once I did that I did not locate an OLD charcoal filter!! I just deducted there was never one in there, based on where the instructions said it should be located. I placed the new filter and let it "rest on an angle" as per the instructions I read from the diagram, and from the other peoples description online. I put the breaker back on and all seems fine!

Burnt out Halogen Bulbs and Broken Glass Shield
I usually replace the charcoal filter in the Microwave one every 3 months. this light out looked confusing and complicated at first, however I was surprised how easy it was when you have proper tools and directions from fellow Do It Yourselfers.

Past time to replace
I unscrewed two screws on top of the microwave, slid the part (which opens when the microwave is in use) to the left and put it aside. The old filter is then easily picked up and removed. I placed the new filter in the same spot. I repositioned the removed part in place, lining up the little tabs, slid it to the right, which automatically lined up for replacement of the screws. These directions were included with the new filter and it was very easy to follow. I can't believe anyone would pay someone else to do this simple task! I am a 67 year old female.

getting to the charcoal filter
Follow directions in the manuel, but getting the grill off to get to the where the filter goes was very difficult, the springs kept poping around. Finally got together. This is the 2nd time I have replaced this grill, don't remember it being this difficult before.

no carbon filter in vent and fan
Had to pry the front top of mircowave open and bend down and force this carbon filter in on an angle .Had to call several numbers for instructions. Very awkward and ridiculous to put carbon filter in-besides, it should have come with one to start with!!

I wish to install charcoal filter kit, will it be easy and install instruction?
For model number PVM1870SM3SS

Hi Yim, Thank you for the question. At the top of the vent grill, there will be 2 screws holding it in place. Remove the screws and pop the vent grill off. The filter just slips in place. This should be a pretty easy job. Good luck !

I have a GE Adora Microwave that's built in and is vented. It doesn't have a charcoal filter but I am getting an error message to install one. Does this type installation need a that filter? The Grille Cover has some broken parts and is being held on by one screw so I figure I'll have to replace that to if I put a filter in.

How do I replace charcoal filter on this microwave model. It does not have a grill on top but a flap that tilts forward. I would appreciate your advise. Thank you.
For model number JVM1870SK03
PartSelect logo
Hi Elisabeth, Thank you for your question. That would be your grille actually. There should be a couple of screws on the top of that grille that you can remove to then get to the smaller metal grille behind it and replace the charcoal filter. It looks like we have answered this question previously as well: "At the top of the vent grill, there will be 2 screws holding it in place. Remove the screws and pop the vent grill off. The filter just slips in place.". Customers have also written in with how they have installed the part, if you would like you can look at that information underneath your charcoal filter part information. Just scroll down passed the questions and you will see the installation instructions from other customers. Good luck with your repair.
