it was necessary to remove both dish holding trays; i simply placed the new upper arm over the existing spray apparatus, and inserted the little 4-pronged connector into place. the lower was a bit more involved: i unscrewed the center piece that that holds the entire arm and assembly; lifted the old arm off { the base comes with it if you haven't unclipped the six clips previously }; i used a small straight screwdriver to pry off the 2 metal brackets from the old arm and attached them to the new arm; i used the same screwdriver to remove soap sludge from the base and the screw-on center piece, and installed back onto the spray assembly. then i reinstalled the dish racks..... good as new !!! boy am i glad the repairman didn't call back, after all!!!
