Grinding noise during spin cycle

I unplugged power, then tilted washer back, leaning against wall. I removed the fan belt and manually rotated three things (motor, pump, and transmission). The water pump did not rotate smoothly. I then ordered the watere pump. To install the pump, I simply removed the water supply lines and opened the access panel on the back of the washer. Replacing the pump is as easy as removing 3 bolts and two hoses, installing the new one, and reconnecting. Then reconnect water supply and belt on bottom of the washer.
