Timer would stick on rinse and spin

Pulled out washer undid control panel, disconnected timer. Replaced timer reconnected harness and replaced control panel. I had a brief moment of panic when I realised both parts looked identical and that maybe I had put the original back in, but this was not the case, when I ran a wash through the machine. I would suggest that one puts a date or some mark on the new part.
