First I checked the lid latch, to make sure it was working, it was; so from info on utube etc; I took a chance it was the timer. It was. My washing maching is working. It was easy and could have taken only 15 minutes but after I screwed off the push button (counterclockwise) I could not get the round face plate off and get to the 2 screws underneath. Reviewed utube video for 80 series kenmore. He said it just pulled off. Mine would not, so I VERY gently worked it off with the tip of the screw driver. (Did not want to break part). Once it was off, removal of screws and replacement of timer is just a plug-in cartridge. Make sure you check how old plug fits. Thanks so much of help and utube video.
