Removed and Replaced Ice Maker
Removed the cover to ice maker. Removed with 1/4 inch socket and the extension, the 2 Nutscrews holding the ice unit in place by bending down the plastic cross piece in front of the screws. Finally squeezing the electrical cover case to remove from the rear wall to get to the Electrical plug connection. Once cover away from the wall and new plug connected, the new ice maker was hung onto the upper slots and nut screws re-installed, again by bending the plastic cross piece for ease of securing the unit. Re-installed the cover and turned the unit on - it made ice like when the refrigerator was new.

Ice maker Quit working
Got new part. Removed cover. Tape at top had to be pried loose from door.

Had to turn cup cover from top portion to access power wire. Door and light wires had to be unplugged and moved from clips.

Two screws at bottom removed. Motor unit was freed up and set on table.

Had to remove bottom white section due to light Assembly was not on new section. Removed three screws. Removed three screws from new unit.

Attached old white section with light to new motor unit.

Reattached power wire routed into cup and plugged in. Cup turned clockwise so as to attach.Other wires re-routed and plugged back in.

Cover section screws inserted and reattached.

Turned on/off button back on. Checked all light switches in refrigerator and freezer section to ensure operating. Put bin back in and closed door. No warning lights present. Approximately one hour later, bin had ice in it.

I replaced the icemaker on my side by side Whirlpool gold fridge with a new icemaker. It made 2 batches of small ice cubes and quit. What could be the problem
PartSelect logo
Hi Eric, thank you for your question. There are two parts that you should check for this issue. The first part to test would be your water inlet valve. The valve has two solenoids that control either the dispenser or the ice maker. Even if your dispenser is working the ice maker solenoid may not be and vise versa. The valve can be tested with a multi meter and should be reading between 500 - 1500 ohms of resistance. If that part is testing correctly then you should look into your ice maker being the issue. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

My ice maker stopped making ice. I disassembled the door and there was ice in the tray, so i broke that up and removed it to ensure it wasn’t jammed. Still doesn’t work. Is replacing the assembly the next easiest step? Is there any way to test the thermostat?

Hi Brian, Thank you for your question. Yes you can test your thermostat with a multi meter to determine whether or not it is working correctly. You might have to take a look at your ice maker being the problem as well. It could be that the ice build up burnt out the motor or broke something else on your ice maker. I hope that helps. Good luck with your repair.

Hi, the ice maker stopped making ice (all of a sudden). When i press the dispense button/arm you can hear the regular noise like its dispensing ice but no ice is being produced. The cold water dispenser is working fine. Which part do i need to replace? Thanks!

My Whirlpool refer is 6 yrs old and I have had 2 ice makers and need another one replaced. Problem is that I start getting a lot and I mean alot of particulates floating in the water. Water is clear from the dispenser but when I take ice cubes from the bin, let it melt you can see these particles. My warranty is out of date and this is a reoccurring problem and possibly a bad health hazard. Are these ice makers still being made of the same material? Something is making these unit degenerate to a point that a will have to replace every 2 years. I need help in this and hope you can come up with a solution. If you want to see what I am talking about have your sales rep come by and I'll give him the sample. If this question goes to a different please lit me know.
For model number W10251076

Hi Fred, Thank you for your question. The particles that you are seeing in your ice cubes are dissolved minerals such as calcium carbonate and magnesium carbontate. As water turns to ice, the particles become visible. This is normal in areas where there is hard water. These particles are harmless. We hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day.
