My goodnss it was simple. UNPLUG THE DRYER. I pulled off the knobs and removed the two screws at the base of the console. This allowed me to free the console and access the back of the console without ever pulling out the dryer from the wall. I took the back off the console, freed up the timer and removed the array of wires. I did need to use some pliers to remove the wire terminals from the timer(be careful here).I mapped out where the wires were on the old timer, but I noticed that the new timer also had wire color printed next to each post. I reversed the process with the new timer and presto, it worked. My wife thinks I'm special.
