Removed front cover of dryer and cover over blower. Removing the blower wheel from the axle requires removing a snap-ring/circlip (impossible without the proper wrench, ~$20 at a big box store) as well as a compression clip (ordinary pliers will do). Yank off old blower wheel (D-shaped hole was now O-shaped, hence the problem), clean off the axle with a rag, and push on new blower wheel. Reassemble. In all honesty, this was a piece of cake for this complete novice. A lot cheaper than buying a new dryer!
