The points on the timer were burned.

I first unplugged washer, removed the dials, removed the back cover over the timer, unscrewed the retaining screws of the timer, unpluged the timer, and reversed the procedure to install the new timer. I was very surprised with the speed of delivery of the timer as I ordered it during the holiday season and I expected delivery to take a week or more. I had the timer within three business days.
