I followed the instructions included with the new part, I never would have tried it this way otherwise. The coupling is a cast from a soft metal and the motor shaft is steel. Insert a large screwdriver under one side of the coupling and pry up. Rotate the coupling about a quarter turn and repeat. Repeat until the coupling comes off. Remove any shreds of the old coupling from the threads of the motor shaft and screw on the new one. The shaft has left-hand threads, so the new coupling has to be turned counter-clockwise to screw it on.
