The repair was very simple once I figured out that all I had to do was peel off the damaged insert, clean the plastic surface with WD-40, and stick on the new insert.
But, I made the job much more difficult because I thought the insert was installed from inside the door. So, I removed the inner door panel as well as the control board equipped with sealed switches. My error -- but would have been helpful to have simple instructions on how to peel off the damaged insert and install new one.
