first off I did not use the thermostat that is still fine. I replaced the defrost heater by removing the old one and the new one came with retrofit instructions as the new one has 2 coils instead of one so I had to move one of the wires that connect to it. It was very easy to do I just had to gently pull out the wire on the left and move it over to the right side so both wires were on the right. Then use the tape and neatly bundle them together and reattach to the foam pieces they were stuck in. Really anyone who can use a screwdriver can do this and the cost was the same as what just a service call from sears would have been.
