By the time my part arrived, I was almost a pro at disassembling my wife's washer. Access through the rear panel is nearly impossible, so the best way to tackle the situation is to completely remove the sheet metal exterior from the "business part" of the machine. This being done, I was able to thoroughly clean all of the parts as well as bang out a dent that had apparently been caused by some over-zealous movers. The actual removal and reassembly of the switch assembly took less than 10 minutes.

I found a step-by-step video of the procedure online, which gives a more detailed portrayal of just what is involved than I could describe here.

As a side note, my parts arrived in only 2 days, were exact replacements, and were fairly priced.
