Remove the fabric softener dispenser by releasing the blue lock ring.
Using a small screwdriver pop off the cap to the agitator auger and remove the bolt holding it down. You will need a socket set with extension.
Remove the agitator auger and remove the center part containing the cogs (think it is called the cam driver).
Remove the worn out cogs and replace with the new cogs. Put this part back into the agitator auger. It is easier if you turn over the agitator auger part when replacing the cogs so that they do not fall out. If you buy the new replacement cam driver from Parts Select it brings a retainer to keep the cogs from falling out.
On top of the main agitator still in the washing machine, remove the thrust spacer and replace with the new thrust spacer. Apply a good coat of silicone grease (dielectric grease works) to the top of the thrust spacer. Also apply a little grease around the O-ring on the Agitator cap.
Now place back the part you have repaired and once sure it is set correctly on the main agitator, replace the bolt and tighten it down firmly.
Replace the cap and replace the fabric softener dispenser and lock it back in place.
That is all it takes. Took just a little over 15 minutes and now it works like new.
You would not believe what the local Applicance Repair wanted to charge to come out to the house and do this simple repair.
