Plastic of latch broke making it impossible to open and close the door

The door was open when the latch broke or we would not have been able to get into the dishwasher to repair it. We had to purchase a star-shaped screwdriver. Lowe's had one for about $7. After switching off the breaker, we removed the inner door panel to access the latch. The old latch was very difficult to remove, but finally came free with perseverance, two pairs of pliers and a lot of elbow grease. The new latch plugged right in with no problem. We replaced the door panel, turned the breaker back on and the dishwasher worked just like new.
